Seems like my whole stratagy online involves getting a lot of altitude, looking for a lone airplane (dont wanna dive into a furball, bounce one airplane only to be killed by another), dive on him, and fire at close range... doing enough damage to make him an easy kill, if not kill him outright...

If for some reason i miss, dont kill him, and dont have enough energy to run away i am killed without much effort...

I can usually get good Khttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif's by crippling planes before they even notice me, but is this "Cheap"?

Sounds "realistic" to me.

To me that is not cheap at all. I mean, in a game like this where it's alot of strategy it would be hard to play cheap. With my experience from WW2 fighters, you got to keep your eyes open for anything at anytime.

If you aren't cheating, it's not cheap.

No not cheap - I have to say this as it still is that way after beeing online since IL-2 start.
The difficulty and the danger of beeing shot down is the thrills of this game.

I don't thinks its a cheap shot trhat's how the game works, but I do have to say I'm usually the guy that has no idea that he is about to die.just flying along and blamo wing gone engine burning pilot wounded, some times that can scare the poo uta you if you don't expect it and you have the volume up to loud http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Fly a Bs109.

You can fly around and backdoor folks at will and zoom away with impunity. If any of you cupcakes are getting shot down more than once a night and not scoring at least 3,000 points in the Bs109....you are complete noobs.

Me, too. In fact, all-too-frequently, the first I know that "there be monsters about" is when I get a bunch of bullet holes in my canopy glass.

I guess that is the game's way of telling me "Hey stupid, it's time to maneuver!"

Scary part is, I'm trying my best to "check six" all the time.

Stick with bombers...that way you have an early warning system... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

(Then you can hop in the back and give mr. BnZ a little surprise...hehehehe)

Its what they call being bounced by enemy fighters. You are bouncing on them and have the advantage. In WW2 the enemy fighters would dive on you from the sun making it hard for the pilot to see them until it was too late. The ME262 used these tactics against Allied bomber formations, a whole wing would be up high and dive through the formation with cannons blazing to dive away and climb back up for another run.

It's not cheap, its what really happened.

If you're having trouble getting away, you should figure out how the performance of your aircraft compares to the one you're bouncing. Once you figure out what type of aircraft you're bouncing, you can plan for what you're going to do next. If you're flying a Bf109 vs. a spitfire, I think what you'd want to do is make your run, zoom back up, and engage in a low speed spiral climb until you're seperated enough to make another run (I'm not a bf109 pilot, this is just an example). If you're flying a FockeWulf, you want to make your run as fast as possible, and regain as much altitude as possible. If you're flying a Focke Wulf against an La7 on the deck, and you don't have enough energy to escape, the solution is to run to friendly lines with the radiator closed and bail out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif (it's best not to engage those things below 3,000m). I would suggest HardBall's aircraft viewer or IL2 Compare. They provide a good estimation of the strengths and weaknesses of aircraft compared to each other.

Nah, it's trying to tell you to get a good wingman and get your arse on coms. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

In time... I'm getting my feet wet on every-man-for-himself dogfight servers. I've tried logging onto their TeamSpeak server, but don't have the 'authorization' or whatever to change to the locked channels where (I guess) other players are (I'm stuck in the lobby with nobody else, not even other newbies like me).

Teamwork? HA! I've dragged some guy locked on my arse straight through a formation of 'freindlies' and none of them took the hint to come zap him for me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Want a wingman, bring your own... want a friend, buy a dog. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

NekoReaperman, don't feed the troll, if you have to, make sure its a laxative or something.

Folks if you feel that lonely BnZ becomes boring (right on) and it's hard to find people on comms, try what I did: join a squad.

It's like a whole new life! I took about 1 month to get used to full difficulty settings, but I will never come back to "cockpit off". The game is sooo much more immersive when:

1) You fly with a team objective
2) You're on comms with people you know and trust, who share the same goal and are NOT here to steal your kills. People you feel are your brothers in arms...
3) No arrows, no externals, just that cockpit, beautifully reproduced, and the added challenge of reading the instruments and the map printout that you have on your lap.

All of a sudden it all makes sense... try it ...
