Said WWII pilot is going to speak to students from my school in May. I can't wait. I need to get something for him to sign. Being the art teacher, I do have a few aviation pieces he could sign (see sig, part of a drawing). i don't think I could rank out a bomber drawing or painting in time though.

I previously met Stephen Coonts at my school years back as well. He was the step father of one of my students. It was kinda' funny how that meeting precipitated.

I will get back to everyone after he speaks. A little info can be found here, just scroll down a bit:http://www.2ndbombgroup.org/HonorRoll.htm

Cool. What's this ... saw his first jet and he got smart fast? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It was on that mission that he and his crew saw their German jet fighter. It was on that day that he told 20th Squadron First Sergeant Clyde "Tiny" Atkerson to "put in his papers. "Tiny", who had been begging him to quite flying combat, was only too glad to comply.

Very cool, don't forget to put an audio recorder on his podium.
Do you have time to draw just him at his post during flight?Either as a gunner on a B-18,before becoming a pilot;or at the controls of of B-17.
,after becoming a pilot.

If not,how about a copy of his unit insignia,or nose art?

Second Bomb Group insig.:

I couldn't find a 20th Bomb Squad large enough to post,but it's a flying Viking throwing bombs.

There's a little bit bigger version about 1/2 way down in the right column on the site below-next to the 20th AAF.this page (http://members.aol.com/brimiljeep/WebPages/SquadronPatchAAFPage.html)

Good luck,and have fun.
