Update:

The server is called BOB, and has a 1940 English Channel plane set.

At the time I joined it Saturday, tonight, had 50 pilots flying on it, quite a party.

One pilot I know lives in California, remarked how stable the server was, pretty good for a server based far away in Germany!

Settings were full realistic, no icons or nothing, so you had to know how to find your way with compass headings.
Nice to see a server with an early plane set and dead full real settings draw such a big crowd.

For the fun of it, I flew to England in an He-111. I loaded her up with 30 50kg bombs to drop on red airfield. I don't think I hit anything, I will review the track. But messing around after my drop, I took the He-111 up to 8000 meters altitude! I flew around over red like this leaving vapor trails. Then I went down and bounced a Hurri. He ended up on my tail but I got him with the bottom turret. I flew around some more and bounced another Hurri, but a Buffalo Mk1 hit me and took out all my positions except for two, and my pilot. I rode the plane all the way down to the ground to see if it would hit the ground and stay in one piece, it did not.
I was probably in the air in that He for around two hours. The map must have been set to rotate every three or four, I don't know.

I jumped in a Hurri next and made a few passes at a 109, but he just ran away from me, like he d amn well should have! Then one of his buddies zoomed down from on high and hit me a bit. I went home and landed.

I hope this server is up again, as populated as it was it was a rousing success, and a lot of fun.

I flew on there for a bit and formed up with a couple of other 109 pilots, but no fruit for about an hour so we left. I didnt really like the server that much, i prefer short icons and a player map icon. Nice idea though...

One mans meat is anothers poison I guess. I love the whole struggle of really having to work all that stuff out for myself. All the time looking around and comparing the scenery to the map to fix your position. At the same time ducking quick glances into the cockpit to guage your speed, heading and altitude. On top of it all, keeping a sharp lookout to try and prevent some bugger sneaking up on your six. Just so you can locate some other poor, overworked sod and do the same thing to them!

Too bad the BoB server had too high a ping for me. I couldn't even get in http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif.

Sounds like that server needs "real" pilots and not "furball", "I just gotta get a kill every two seconds" pilots. SOunds nice!

Hallo,

my opinion - the idea of such server is quite good, but the presentment of it is worse.

We have been flying there on a Dieppe1942 map and it was a total lagfest - all the ships (including BB's) by the beachhead were shooting their AAA's causing sooo much stutter and freeze.

Eventually I have avoided that area and went hunting Germans into the mainland in my ole MkVc4cannon and had a really nice fight with pair of Fw - one got shot down the other damaged me but was destroyed by my wingman...The flight home over the channel with engine dying and plane dropping down on right wing (having aileron shot off) was a blast. The relief having the base in sight was enormous.

Who said here Immersion, baby?

To the BOB server admin - generally tune down the AAA and this server would be great!

I gave the server a try a few days ago. At that time it had 30-40 players. I found it to a nice change. I "located" four spits flying in formation above me. Made for an exciting but short fight lol.

Ah well. Back to the icon servers: Point little plane icon at map square indicated in brief. Pick nose all the way to the target and read the banner headlines of your squadmates names like AKA_$251=Havey0uEver~S33n_sucha~fekking~Big~L0ng_n ame>Lik3+hisB4?_Moelders. Locate an aircraft that dosen't have a banner headline. Shoot it down then point your plane icon at the airfield icon and pick your nose again until its time to land. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Chuck, it's unbelievable how many people across the pond don't know when exactly the BoB took place. All I can do is just follow you and say:

1941? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

PS: This map doesn't make sense as the BoB map anyway (lack of MkI Spits, Dorniers, etc.). But I like the settings, so if they call it "Air Warfare over the British Channel" I'll say it's a cool map http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Just a quick question.

I fly full switch in coops and wars but haven't in a DF server.

Can you ask for vectors like you can in the fore mentioned servers?
