BOOOOO!!!! I hate it in games when you get certain articles of clothing and they allow to have special abilities. Like in this Jade says that if you run into a big guy, your going to fall over, but if you have special boots the animation turns into a roll and it won't slow you down http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif. That knocks AC a little bit in my book. I'll still get it though http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Good find even if their isn't anything new. One interesting tidbit I liked is the confirmation of character evolution with new weapons and abilities throughout the game.

Sweet! RPG element at its best, though i'm not much of a RPG fan. I'm more of an Action/Adventure/FPS guy...lol

Before I watched the interview, I'd read your comment, and I would have agreed, but I'd assumed it would have been more of an RPG sort of set up...

After watching the interview, I think that the lovely Jade's just trying to say that each article of clothing basically acts as a "level up". Like I don't think you'll be able to choose between several different gloves or boots at any given time, its just that thats how they represent the leveling up... sort of like a more physical representation of what would be a simple HUD bar in most other games... if that makes sense to anyone.

Why is that bad?
It's just like the Zelda games. Different articles of clothing have different powers. It's a good way to save countless hours gaining XP points that an RPG game would enforce to get those certain abilities.

While I obviously can't speak for KnightTemplar, I personally loved the Zelda games, but its a bit of a different game type... AC is much more realistic in it's approach, with most aspects of it being based in fact, whereas the Zelda games are far more fantasy based, with magic and whatnot being involved.

And while it is true that better equipment might make for better performance in reality, a pair of boots wouldn't make you more able to roll back to your feet after getting pushed down. But like I said in my last comment, I'm fine with this if they're using the equipment as a way to show his skill development without a HUD bar.

Yeah i know what your saying.

Maybe the boots are Nikes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
But honestly, after you get them and like you're running around and you roll instead of fall, you'll totally forget that once you fell over when you hit a fat guy.
It's real, but it's a game. So it's really a trivial issue to me.

indeed dracojames, it sounds actually pretty good that way! but i hope that there isnt millions of boots that have some different ability and you have to choose from them - then it would be the magic boots causing the new skills, and that's not fun. but showing kinda level ups without HUD.. great

still, if you dont want that sort of thing to happen shorly you can swap back to old boots or equipment? so if you dont want to use them you can change them to an old pair...

where did you read that in the interview?
-

it's called realism not role playing.

you don't perform the same with all footwear and gloves. your performance depends on weight, dimensions and materials used to make the footwear and the gloves. hence the better grip, balance, etc.

an olympics runner won't use boots that heavy metal fans wear, but special running shoes to aid his speed, in the competition.

The RPG element of this game seems very similar to Metroid games. You start out the game with one mission when you have all your equipment, then you lose it all, and have to start from the ground up. The RPG element isn't going to be like World of Warcraft where you have to decide which equipment you want based on stats. It seems that in this game, any equipment you get will be either a new ability, or a complete upgrade.

Those "upgrades" like boots and gloves combined with better "abilities" like rolling (I mean, wtf is up with that) doesn't sound very good to me..

Perhaps it's just rough translation in the interview, guess we'll have to wait and see during E3 how this will turn out.

I sure do hope we don't have to earn the basic climbing/fighting skills during the game, that would be weird. (since Altair is officially already a high-ranking assassin with all skills learned)

The filesize is ridiculously huge. The Ubidays 720p trailer was only 40mb, so in theory the interview at 720p should be around 240mb, but 600? I wouldn't download half a gigabyte of video for something i'm only going to watch once or twice...

What I think they're trying to get across is that (someone mentioned it here) that your gear "upgrade" to make you preform better. Materials etc of a pair of boots can boost preformance (like not being knocked down as much)

Being knocked over is a matter of body mass, strength and agility and has nothing to do with the type of boots you're wearing..

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif That's exactly what she meant. I think it's pretty cool. The only downside is that we'll already know what's the maximum level Altair can reach from the very beginning. There won't be many surprises in relation to new abilites and such.

It CAN matter is all Im saying, for example im pretty sure if someone were to push you and you were wearing Sandals you would fall over, but if you were wearing say cletes or running shoes youd probably still be standing.

well it IS easier to climb with gloves :P

i dont get why you think its a problem that some boots reprencent a new upgrade.. its not like its going to be some hyper-drive sci-fi boots :P http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
