Who picked K4?

05-26-2004, 04:55 PM
My vote goes to K4.

thats gonna be a toss between the G6/AS and G14 both are the better late war 109 turners
the G10 looks alot like the K4 with slightly better turn and high speed handling but with a worse climb rate

if i have to be in a turn with say a P51,KI La yaks whatever i would pick the G6 AS
but by looks and overall performance i prefer the G14

Thanks for the replies! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Oh, by the way, how do you tell a g10 from a k4 and a g14 from a g6?

05-26-2004, 05:12 PM
G-14 and G-6A/S are the most maneuverable, I prefer the G-6A/S though for its performance over G-14.

You can tell K-4 from G-10 becuase the K-4 has a retractable tailwheel. Not sure about G-6 and G-14, one of the 109 guys will probably be able to tell you.

I voted K4 as well... even with gunpods it is fairly good...http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

whats the big deal about the G6/AS? doesnt that horrible sticky out tailwheel induce drag anyways? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif what about the noze howitzer, doesnt that cause probs?

Not meaning to antagonize, but people are always going to pick their "favourite"... hey I like the G series, but the 6-14's don't really do it for me - I fly the AS sometimes, and quite like it - the armament especially http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif but I find that it struggles (or I struggle with it, one or the other http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif) when thrown about as you describe. The K4 is only marginally better, but still. If you'd put the G2 in the list then my vote would have gone to that, unfortunately, it isn't what you'd call a "late model" 109 - well it is if you consider the 109 B,C and D's 1936 - 1939, but we don't have those in this game so the point is irrelevant.

I'm not Anti G series 109's - just IMHO, we have too many G6 variants - of which the AS is my fav http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif How about a G4?

BTW - for sustained turns you would have done well to include the 109Z ... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif well, it's a late 109 isn't it? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

"Too Damn Late!" I hear you cry http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

anyways, my 2p worth

Thanks! It seem the G6/AS is the best turner so far. I would include the 109z, but most servers outlaw it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Being a sad 109 spotter, I use the following to identify them "at a glance" in the game:

G6: "bumps" in front of the cockpit covering the MG-131 ammo feeds and breeches.

G6/AS: Redesigned front cowling, the "bumps" are now elongate and more steamlined.

G-14: G6 style "bumps", bulges over top surface of inner wing covering enlarged main gears (like K-4).

G-10: Very similar to G6/AS, no rubber cover on tailwheel. IMHO, tricky to tell the two apart, in game at least.

K-4: Bumps on upper surfaces of inner wing (like G-14), G6/AS style cowling. Besides the wings, several small things mark it apart from a G6/AS or G-10; Retractable tailwheel, maingear outer wheel covers, rudder trim tabs, enlarged DF loop behind cockpit, radio aeriel mast removed- aerial now attaches directly behind cockpit and passes through the DF hoop.

Not all the differences I'm sure, but I find those useful for in game ID http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Thanks for the replies! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Hey, one more question, why don't they call the G6/AS a G8? That's what a G-8 was, right?

05-26-2004, 08:15 PM
I too picked the K-4,I think Hartman flown in it too?

05-26-2004, 08:45 PM
Oooh! more 109 trivia http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

The G-8 was a photo-recon variant, whereas the G-6/AS was a re-engined version of the G-6. Some G-8's were fitted with the DB605 AS engine like the G-6/AS was. On the G-8 I think the MG's were removed and the motor cannon retained.

I vote for me109G6 AS, it's only late 109 with MG151/20 option and I'm not skilled enough to hit a barn door with Mk108

Altitude, speed, manoeuvre and.... CRASH!

I hardly ever fly the late models sice I find them to be very unresponsive. But anyway: I go for the G6AS though the K4 is pretty good too.

Ready for take off in 2004?

What I REALLY want is a K14 with the famed DB605L engine and 4 blade prop http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif Now that would be special http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

I voted for the G6/AS.

This is a nice bird for the Pony's to play with. It should also make the Spitfire pilots shiver in there pits.

This is one plane not to be underestimated.
