Thanks DD...this is the first time I have seen the New Guinea map, and I was thrilled to see it included all the important terrain necessary to build simulate RAAF missions in this theater.

Thats not a bad start. But I must admit I wish the whole of the Solomons chain were represented. There are many, many very important air and sea battle sites (large and small) in the Solomons and near by including; Munda (a very important japanese then US airbase) and the rest of New Georgia with Bairoko Harbour, (prolonged battels fought here) Blackett Straights (near where PT 109 went down, Rendova, Vila on Kolumbangara, Ghizo Island, (Site of many B17 missions) Ballalae, (the site of many Pappy Boyington adventures,) Bougainville (the site of the Yamamoto shoot down as well as many land sea and air battles) , and of course Simpson harbour / Rabaul although you might regard the latter as belonging to the New Guinea map.

As you might tell from my comments I know the area quite well having visited there and walked the battle fileds and aside from missing the above greatly important sites it menas that you cannot just hop in a plane and go for a long flight. One of the joys of MSFS is that because it has virtually the whole world mapped, you can hop in a plane and fly a milk run mission from Guadalcanal to New Guinea if say that is what you want to do. Not something to do every flight session of course but great to test out your nav skills never the less.

Maps are just about my only disappointment in FB.

Evolved from a tactical flight sim engine, it can be expected. But still, I'd like to fly from Rangoon to Kunming, my guns empty and 1500 dollars richer for that morning's work

PNG will be interesting for the AI http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

and humans for that matter .. with 4000 metre moutain ranges the clouds tend to have rocks in them up there and you might feasibly be taking off with 2nd stage superchargers already engaged if any high altitude strips are modelled

Maybe he was thinking of the like what we got with AEP patch.

Speaking of which, are their anymore fake maps like we have with IL-2/AEP?

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif chris455... since we are getting British Carriers also... a Med Map would cover the British Carrier Operations that were operating in the Med.
The Italian and German Air Groups were heavyly fighting these British Carrier Groups for the control of the Medd and Malta in WW2.
The British launch the Carrier attack againest the Italian Navy at Taranto which sunk or heavyly damaged three Italian Battle Ships. The Japanese later copyed and use the same type of attack againest the US Navy at Pearl Harbor.
The Med saw some of the Largest Naval Battles outside of the Pacific War.
So a Map of the Med is important in this respect.
