OK so my first patrol ever i was wowed by the graphics. Zooming out and watching the boat sail past the camera, going underwater, exploring the town.

I sailed towards my patrol point on the north west of Scotland and grinned thinking of all the enemy ships i would send to the bottom. Well i got a few contacts, but never managed to intercept them (the contacts that appear a few hundred k's away, what are they supposed to be, radio intercepts? bdu spots, how do they know where they are???) and rapidly started to get disheartened. My crew were probably feeling the same.

I was now of the coast of norway, a few days had passed and the water was getting deep, a sounding showed 300 metres, "sweet" i though, time to test out this crew.... looking around no one seemed to be ready,

**whistles innocently... then**
"ALARM!!! CRASH DIVE" i screamed and the crew jumped to action, only a swell of white water marking my boat as it dove into the freezing water. Back to the inside of the boat and the meter was dropping, 50 metres 60...

"Take her to 200" i said to the helmsman, grinning gleefully like the captian in das boot.

He probably thought i was a bit mad at this point but didnt seem to complain, hey im in charge remember, they dont put numpties in charge of 750 tons of steel!!... I had memories of das boot in my mind, hell they got off the guage in that film, remember?

120...140... still going, im grinning more, flick to outside, its getting dark at this depth, back inside alls going well 160...170

"Approacing critical depth captain!"

What!! i think, 160 critical?!? mmmm ok ok, now lets surface then... BANG POP!! lights are poping and a valve goes, water rushing into the hull. **ohh cool, i think, such detail!!! wait... no thats not cool is it!! ARggg panic!!**

Ohhh **** ****, surface surface!!! i click frantically at 20 metres on the guage. No reaction from the helm. Ahh blow tanks... wait how do i do that... **pauses game, reads a second, ahh thats it**

"ok chief blow tanks!!"

no doubt now he is wiping his brow, tanks blow... needle still dropping, just like my heart... bang ship implodes.... 210 metres...

First carreer, 0 tons 46 dead men. A massive guilty feeling.

Can you beat that?

Yeah, this game gets you sober real quick. I got cocky once and tried to get a class C destroyer to chase me so I could see what it was like .

I quickly found that the depth of my position was only 50 metres. It made it REALLY hard to hide so after a long and sweaty cat and mouse game I had my entire crew killed from depth charges http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

I've noticed recoving from a deep dive a lot of times they just seem to ignore you. Is this right?

To be honest I think crush depth in SH3 is way too low, and it seems that once you get to the point where lights start to go out there is absolutely no way to surface again even if you blow the tanks.

Well for me i was in a steep dive at full speed, so getting the boat to level and then climb in itself would take a while, by then i was filling with water.

I will have to test with slowly going deep!

But I didnt react as soon as he warned me, which maybe i should have. I will wait to find out another time!! I dont want to "test" test depths, i like it to be a suprise http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif
