Is it possible for any German planes to takeoff and land on aircraft carriers?

I've heard of some fictitious campaigns of Germans in the Pacific so now I'm wondering if it's possible for German planes to do so or would Japanese planes have to be used with German markings.

I've tried FW190 and stuka but they hit the drink. I'm about to give up on the idea.

I don't know about ingame, but IRL the bf109 and Stuka had a special variant made for eventual use once the Graf Zeppelin was finished. I remember seeing a youtube video once of a guy landing all sorts of aircraft on a carrier, including an HE-111

more info on
the aircraft(Bf 109T "Trägerflugzeug"):

the aircraft carrier:

how about the GO229 on a carrier?

just look up "IL2 carrier" on youtube, lots of proof you can.

You can belly-land almost any fighter in the game on the carriers if you come in slow enough.

Too bad you can't teach AI pilots to do that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

The 109 in particular can takeoff from any carrier. I've been able to land it on everything but the US CV carriers. (the deck's a little short without an arresting hook) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
However, AI will fall off the front of even the Lexington Class carriers.

I guess the Bf109 can do it in game. Don't think you'll get a 190 in that air soon enough though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The Wiki article doesn't mention anything about the BF-109T's fuel capacity sadly. I've always wondered if the range was increased or if provisions for drop tanks were made...

Not sure about the T-1 but would think so as the T-2 could carry a drop tank. Tanks were 400l in the fuselage and a 300l drop tank.

Range varied depending on altitude and boost from 545km (338mi) to 865km (537mi). No mention if this is with or without drop tank

I've seen TB-3 and Lerche landed on a carrier. Taking off could be problematic.

starting Bf109E, Fw190A4 and Ju87B (with SC500) from a Akagi at full speed is no proplem - not for the player , not for the AI.

landing, well, there is a reason why carrierplanes are equipted with a hook !
if you want make such fantasy stuff, you have to live with it........................

When USS Wasp was ferrying Spitfires to Malta, one of the Spits turned back with mechanical trouble and made a hook-less landing on the carrier, stopping three of four feet from the edge of the flight deck. The USN pilots on the Wasp awarded the RAF pilot with the "Wings of Gold" Naval Aviator badge.

You can easily take off with TB - 3 from carrier. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The pilots of a Hurricane Sqn volunteered to evac their a/c to a carrier from Norway in May '40, w/o accidents IIRC.

Thanks for all your comments guys but what I'd really like to know is if it's possible in this sim.

Sounds like it was this incident.

*On June 8, the Glorious, under the command of Captain Guy D'Oyly-Hughes (who was a submarine specialist and had only ten months experience in aircraft carrier operations), had taken on board ten Gloster Gladiators and eight Hawker Hurricanes from No. 46 Squadron RAF and No. 263 Squadron Royal Air Force, the first landing of modern aircraft without arrestor hooks on a carrier.
These were flown off from land bases to keep them from being destroyed in the evacuation. Glorious left a larger convoy to proceed independently. While sailing through the Norwegian Sea to return to Scapa Flow, the carrier and her two escorts, the destroyers HMS Acasta and HMS Ardent, were intercepted by the German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. The carrier and her escorts were sunk in two hours, roughly 170 nautical miles (315 km) west of Harstad, with the loss of 1,519 men.*

I think Glorious was taking Gladiators and Hurricanes to Norway in May, then tried to to take them home again.
Terrible story.

Wouldn't it be nice to see these ones in the game?

Ignore the stats, they are from the miniature wargame.

Landing a stuka on a carrier is easy because of the divebreaks! Not sure if the AI can do it.

Was Bf-109T-1 basically an EMIL?

How they expect it to be competitive?

this was designed in ther pre-war and very early stages of the war. The carrier Zeppelin was never completed, and the plan was abandoned

Sure you can.. I have lots of missions, and lots of pacific missions- I replace the player plane with the FW190 in many cases... Take off is easy, but landing is a lot harder though!

The Bf109T was practically an Emil with longer wingspan and navalised.
Some Bf109T served in Norway with removed naval equippment. but still with larger wings.
they had some really cool paintchemes.

I wonder what the turnrate for the Bf109T Toni was... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
