Depends... online or offline?

offline i am a master of the aerial kill, i can kill from most ranges and deflections...

online i am a weeping noob, i have had this game for something like 2 years and i have only been in a position for fire my weapon twice, and both times i ended up spraying around and not killing anything...

I would generally say I meant online, as the 5th option can't really happen offline and I chose that one. However, I guess it should encompass all aspects of the sim.

Depends highly on the aspect and on the situation.

Rear shot: Generally aim for wing roots

5-20 degree rear deflection: Aim for the nose and cockpit area

Hard turning deflection shot, flat profile: Try and hit anwhere I can when I pull enough lead to make the shot. Usually want to hit the engine, but I generally underastimate the amount of lead required and saw off the tail.

Top/Bottom aspect; centre of the mass, hopefully the cockpit/wingroot area.

Just like shooting at something in real life, I find that shooting at a definate area on the target makes for better accuracy. So I generally pick a spot as I line up the shot, and try to hit it.

Same here. Most of the time I'm aiming for the cockpit/big fat part of the plane, hoping to hit the engine. If his engine goes, I'll escort him for a crash landing and flash my lights as I buzz past. I don't care if the whole point is to kill others, doesn't mean you have to make it a barbaric slaughter...

Center of mass, which in practical terms means engine/cockpit, though my aim is poor enough that I often end up taking out one engine if the target is a multi engine aircraft http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Pilot.

I used to try to disable the enemy a/c and let the pilot jump to safety. But, I found I was losing my ammo too quickly. You really cannot afford to waste ammo. Now I wait for the right moment when he turns or climbs to give him a quick burst.

If Oleg ever gives us the option to reload I'll go back to my old ways.

My goal is simply to render my opponent useless and a non factor. If that means killing him, then so be it.I'm not there to play patty cake with the guy, cause I doubt his intentions are any different.

Don't come the tough guy.

All your squadron are talking about in the mess is you & your wingman being caught kissing in the fuel dump.

I'll aim for the centre mass of the aircraft, no matter what I'm firing with. With cannons you can be more liberal as wing and tail hits could remove them.

I'll never ever follow a plane down if its damaged and smoking. Its good enough for me that a smoking plane diving is 99% of the time out of the fight and going home. No point following it to get dragged and bagged.

Its a shame we can't get 'probables'.

I pick a part of the plane and try not to hit it. That generally guarantees that I will hit it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

But I try not to waste ammo on a clearly disabled a/c - besides, even if he lands, you get credit, so why look for the spectacular bang ?

Get credit, in what sense? If you mean that you know you've done your job sure, you may even get those 100pts in the ingame stats, but if you mean you get a kill in the server's stats that's not true.

As for my answer to the poll, it's the 5th. I'm not very brave; I only care to return back safe, no reason to kill anyone not dangerous http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.

If I am in a good mood, I will shoot at the red/green navigation lights on the wingtips. In bad mood, I aim at the left chamber of the vitual pilot's heart. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

BTW, once I was shot down by an aircraft emitting thick black smoke. I let him go just a minute earlier, and started to work on his wingman, then he crawled up behind me and shot my wing off with a single bullet http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

So I am very careful about letting damaged aircraft go. Even a seized engine can be simulated with feathering the propeller and switching off the enginer temporarily.

Once I let somone go with serious control wire damages. He couldn't land, but he was climbing slowly. He asked if I can finish him... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif No problem, I climbed up as well, but by the time I arrived into shooting position, someone else was already there shooting his wing off. I dove after the falling wreckage and emptied all the ammo into it. For next 5 minutes, we had a friendly chat about what is supposed to be kill steal, and what is kill steal reversal. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Wherever I can. If I sneak up on someone online I generally hold the "kill" button until it's obvious he's out.

Clearing someone's tail in a furball, just that, hit enough to make the person break then worry about my own state.

I'm at a loss as how some people can chose where they want to hit. If you give someone enough time to take that good a bead surely your are doing something wrong?

If it's a Spitfire I shoot until I blast him to pieces because those guys will shoot/attack at you as long as they can keep the plane in the air(Warclouds), for others I shoot until they are disabled or until they disengage friendly, but I never bother to escort them...

Last option.
I shoot untill I cripple him out of fight. I don't like to waste ammo no more http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Initial burst attempted in the engine area.

Last option, mostly. I wouid love to have them bail out or try to make it back but mostly, my La-7 wingmen blow them apart all the time and robbing me of my points. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

If I can get a head shot, I'll take it.

If not, I generally go for the wing root. I tend to be frugal with my ammo. There are only 30 cannon shells in a Cobra, so one-shot kills are the goal.

I am generally very content if I hit any portion of the target. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Engine,Cockpit ,Wingroot unless its a Big target, then the Bombers fall fairly easy if you shoot the wing tips off.

If I see I crippled them fairly good I generaly fly on and reaccess my situation in the battle. And relocate my Wingman. I won't escort him to saftey 99% of the time. His wingman will shoot me. If its someone I know I may then give him that 1% Courtesy flight.

Someone stated that your doing something wrong if you can think about your shot placement before hand. We'll if you don't, and you don't try to place yourself into a position to do that, then your are most defently doing it wrong.
