View Full Version : Missing planes: My humble view

12-15-2004, 08:28 AM
Greetings to all.

I've been an avid WWII fan for most of my life. I am particularly fond of aviation, and I find the IL-2 series to be the best tool to have fun with my hobby (aside from modeling... and reading... and movies... and museums... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif ).

However, me being new to the community, I'd just like to share with you the planes that I think, as of this moment, are most lacking in IL2+AEP+PF.

I know the vast (VAST) majority of these planes will never see the light of day (if any at all), but I'd appreciate it if you could tell me if indeed any of them ar eplanned for future updates.

I begin with the most obvious: We are given a RN carrier in OF; yet we only have one british plane to fly from it, the Seafire.

So my first notable ommisions are:

- Sea Hurricane
- Fulmar
- Firefly
- Swordfish
- Albacore
- Barracuda
- Skua

These would greatly enhance the british experience, not to mention it would complement the good ammount of Japanese/American planes offered.

Next, a couple of german planes I think are long overdue.

- Do-335 "Pfeil" (If the Horten and Salamander are featured, then so should the Arrow be)
- He-177 (Germany's only true heavy bomber, widely used in the Russian front)
- Bf-109H and T
- Ju-88 C-6
- Hs-123 (again, widely used in the Russian front)
- he-112

British planes now:

- The Typhoon, Tempest, Mosquito and Spit Mk. XIV I think are the most noticeable absences. Still, we could also do with one or two heavy bombers and, say, the Wellington and the Maryland. And of course, the Meteor.

US planes:

- The Apache dive-bomber
- Helldiver
- Devastator
- Marauder
- Invader
- Tigercat (one can always dream)

- A5M "Claude"
- Ki-44 "Tojo"
- Ki-83
- ki-100
- D4Y "Judy"
- B7A "Grace"
- B6N "Jill"
- J1M "Gekko"
- J7W1 "Shinden" (again, one can dream)

This is not a sort of "wish-list" by some newbie demanding the planes "cause teh game sux". It's simply a request for the kind members of this community to inform me if any one of the planes I mentioned is planned to be included in a future update, flyable or otherwise.

Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the community.

I think that many of the planes you mentioned in your first listing won't make it into the game since they don't have much to do with neither the "Ostfront" nor the Pacific theater (I know some of them might be used in the Pacific by the British but not much and the game is not focusing on the RN or the RAF in the Pacific theater).

From the others you mentioned, some might make it into a future patch.

What we will get is a Tempest first as an AI plane only and then perhaps as a flyable one too.

Some other aircrafts they gone plan to create as AI planes first are:

Douglas TBD "Devastator"
Mitsubishi A5M "Claude"
Nakajima B6N "Tenzan"
Nakajima J1N "Gekko"

As flyable we will get the Ki-100 and a Betty.

There are some people creating new models of their own (like a flyable PBY at which someone is working) and if they are good enough, Maddox Games will release them too. Perhpas someone is doing one or the other of the German planes you mentioned. From Maddox Games itself, I wouldn't expect to see any new German planes.

But they are now working on Battle of Britain which should be released in 2006. There we gone see some new planes - Allied and Axis.

I know there is a website that has a directory of all planes proposed or are " works-in-progress " for FB + PF in a directory form with their current status of the work. Maybe someone can post a link to it.

To add to your list, our Dutch comrades have called for the inclusion of Fokker aircraft also. Ditto for the Aussies for the Boomerang and Wirraway. And no additional Russian planes to be included ? Have we included everything possible ? Also please clarify, Iwatapt. Do you mean flyable aircraft or will AI-only be OK as long as they're included in the game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well I was really convinced that we were going to get a Ju-88 and maybe a Pe-2.
It would be sad if we don´t. They would surelly put FB to the level of PF regarding medium bombers....

Not to mention that this two planesshould have been a priority for the Eastern Front fronm day one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. (FB I mean not IL-2)

gimme that list.....

Well, here's what I hear:

Do-335 is being worked, but is teetering on the edge of not getting done.

Swordfish is being done, but is only at the LOD0 stage, or thereabouts.

CW-21b is almost done, and should be included in an update soonish.

The PBY is being done, but dunno how long it will take (is a very complex model).

Typhoon doesn't look like it's gonna make coz of a problem with the model, but someone may start a rebuild, but it will take a very long time to do it.

The Tempest externals are almost, or are done, and will be included at some stage. May become flyable, may not, who knows?

The Ju-88 was finished some time ago and sent over to IC:Maddox, haven't heard about it since, but indications were that it would be included at some stage.

Pe-2 is currently being done, and is nearing completion. It was completed, and sent in, but Oleg sent it back asking for the radio position to be modelled in the aircraft, so they are working on that now.

The Mosquito Mk.VI I think was completed a couple of months ago and sent in also, but again, haven't heard anything since.

Someone was doing the Boomerang for the PF release, but work stopped due to communication difficulties with Ilya. Someone I think has taken it up again, but it is just at the LOD0 stage or so, so will take a while as well.

There are a whole heap of Italian aircraft being modelled by a group called Club Med. These include the MC.202, MC.205, G.55 I think, and a couple others. Most of them are almost done, or are done.

I'm sure there are others being worked on, but whether these can be finished in time, and to an appropriate standard, before 1C:Maddox stops support of FB, who can tell??

Great first post Iwatapt!

Well written, polite and interesting. Watch out and keep your head down from here on out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Welcome aboard fellow WW2 aviation addict.

Welcome Iwatapt,

Some good pictures of the soon-to-arrive Ki-100 here and on the previous pages:

Can't wait to duel Hellcats over Kyushu in this one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Unfortunately, the IL-2 series has a history of aircraft being developed but never actually being included. The He-177 is a case in point and it looks like some other hoped-for add ons may never actually appear before the new Battle of Britain takes over from IL-2/FB/AEP/PF some time in late 2005 or 2006.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, this place has been littered with posts of what we "need".

Really though, the moral of the story is if you want it, you'll probably have to model it yourself. I think Oleg is apprehensive about modeling many new aircraft because:

1. With PF out and the update (hopefully) almost done as well as the update for AEP probably almost done I'm sure 1c is full steam ahead with the development for the next sim. Battle of Britain.

2. In case you haven't noticed this forum is extremely pessimistic. If a flight model even slightly inaccurate there are many in this forum who are on it like rabid wolves to meat.

I've seen posts here where people (literally) say:

"Ugh! the Flight model or the Damage model of the <insert aircraft here> is way off!!!! I keep getting shot down and can't use <insert> tactics anymore. I hate Ubisoft and this game they can't get it right. Right after this I'm:
A.unistalling this game
B. breaking the CD in half and throwing it away
C. bringing it back for a full refund
I'm leaving the forum forever! GOODBYE!"

You think I'm joking... sift through old pages and you'll see more locked threads than locked doors in Fort Knox.

Its pathetic but thats the way it is. Pretty much the only planes there were getting from now on I think (after this next patch) are 3rd party. Sorry chum. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

12-15-2004, 02:41 PM
I think you misunderstand something darkhorizon, the 3rd party only make the model, nothing to do with the FM which is always programmed by 1C. So that has nothing to do with getting fewer models.

12-15-2004, 04:36 PM
Really? Hmmm well I am corrected then. But I'm sure that still has something to do with it.

12-15-2004, 07:51 PM
Oh, the Fairy FireFly is one of my favourite aircraft, I'd love to hear that thing ingame.

I've had this link on my desktop for the longest time. Here it is....

I am still waiting on the flyable Hawk 75/P-36!!!!

Thank you all for your welcomes and replies.

Well, it's better than I expected. I was just checking the Dev. updates pages on the main site, whose link one of you kindly provided, and the new planes look great.

As for the rest, well... we can't have everything, can we?

The Ki-100 looks yummy. I was fortunate enough to have seen it at RAF Hendon in January, and I am pleased to hear we'll get to experience it first-hand. Now all I need is the bloody 1/72 model kit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif
