Although the Bleriot XI mono-plane survived.

The accident was over the sea, both bodies fell in muddy waters near the shore and so did the plane, which glided gently but tipped over when it hit the mud. It wasn't the almost perfect landing it is shown in that movie (nor do airplane engines stop by themselves). And, of course, the pitch down that ejected both Quimby and Willard, the passenger, wasn't due to her trying to do an outside loop -she wasn't mad, she knew what would happen, and besides, that is an impossible maneuver in a 1912 plane, which just wouldn't stand such stress, nor had power enough.

The first outside loop was not made till 1927, when Jimmy Doolittle achieved it in a Curtiss Hawk.

Why did Quimby's Blériot pitch down so abruptly is still at question, but stall or turbulence could have shaken the plane down, and the lack of a harness or belt did the rest.

Quite right. Clunk, click every trip as we used to say.

Had to take some liberties with the landing as I can't do mud :-(
