View Full Version : How long is the USN campaign?

Heya folks,

I've flown 35 missions on this dynamic campaign and I'm in the middle of Tarawa. Even though the game skipped a whole year, from Aug '42 to Oct '43, it seems like it's taking forever.

Anyway, my question is, how many missions can I expect to fly before I'm done? Also, when can I expect to get off this d@mn FM-2? The F6F Hellcat entered service way before Oct '43, so what gives?

You need to make sure you pick F6Fs for campaigns they are available for before you start the career; otherwise you will be stuck with whatever the DGen defaults are.

As for length, I think the full USN career can go up to 100-120 missions (just a rough estimate; I haven't gone through and counted all the mission dates by hand, and I doubt I ever will . . .). Campaign-wise, after Tarawa there is: Marianas 1944, Paulau 1944, Iwo Jima 1945, Chichi Jima 1945, Okinawa 1945, and Japan 1945, or about half the career.

I'm not sure I follow you there. When I started the Navy campaign, all the choices I was given were fighter or bomber careers. I don't recall being given any choices about aircraft available.

I am getting aircraft upgrades, though. I started flying an F4F-3, then I got the -4, and now I'm flying the FM-2. In time I hope to get the F6F and the F4U. Here's hoping anyway 'cuz them Ki birds are tough to tackle on a wildcat ;(

You can specify your aircraft of choice for every subcampaign (for example, you can choose aircraft for Pearl Harbour, then for Wake etc.) of your campaign. That is of course if they are available.

Take this link for info about stock campaigns (I have finished some of them). I have posted in some observations as well as number of missions for every finished campaign (all of them are flown from first date available).

For Pacific campaigns on mission length=very long (default settings) you can expect 120 missions max per one campaign. (longest I have flown was G4M campaign, 120 missions). That is for those which have many subcampaigns from '41 or '42 to '45.

No problem B0lter. I have just started new IJN fighter campaign (it is really funny because I have never really 'seriously' fly a Zero before -- a lot of cockpit familiarization needed http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

I feel this one can also be lengthy campaign.. I like these with 100+ missions. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif
So far 5 missions flown. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You can even change the aircraft types after you had started the campaign. There was some thread on this topic somewhere, but I don't know where. I did it under Il-2 FB 3.04 by editing the conf.dat file in the respective folder of the campaign (In your case, Missions/Campaign/Un/dgen_*** something).

I have posted detailed explanation on "how to change aircraft in the middle of the campaign", not so long ago on PF forum. I have saved all possible info which I encountered about campaigns over the time.

Oh yes, I just found that thread.. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/1101...711035423#9711035423 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/1101025423/r/9711035423#9711035423) -- but take note that you may crash your campaign if you make edit with plane that is not in map properties (for example, you can not fly LA-5 in Midway subcampaign). You may experiment a bit, but *be sure* to back up (save) your career before you make changes.(explanation in link)

Not only that you can also change default skins in game. I have posted thread about it in IL.2 General Discussion (again not my finding, but I was carefull and I saved that info from somewhere http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)
