George, 87, of Greenville, died January 20, 2011. Born in North Providence,he was a decorated fighter pilot with the 368th Fighter Group of the 9th Air Force. He completed over 80 missions including four on "D-Day". He gained a degree of fame when, on June 14, 1944 he successfully outmaneuvered 40 enemy warplanes in an intense air battle over Lisieux, France. His heroic actions lead to his induction into the Smithfield Heritage Hall of Fame, State of Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame, and the State of Rhode Island Aviation Hall of Fame. George was also featured on History Channel's documentary series "Dogfights" in the episode concentrating on the P-47 Thunderbolt.

A few years ago I had the honour of recreating his P-47 "Junior" at the request of his family, and using IL2 to create numerous images depicting him in action for his birthday. Something which I will always be proud of.

I released the skin and it should still be available somewhere:

My grandpa died 6 years ago on his birthday (a lot of life's irony in that), age 88, he was also in war but on the "wrong" side.
