I asked once on forum for more info of submarine at Suomenlinna islands (Helsinki) and Vetehinen-42 answered :

mariuszj1939: Submarine Vesikko launched in Turku in 1933, it was originally commissioned by the German Navy, who took the vessel for test runs in Airisto off Turku. The Finnish Navy purchased the submarine in 1936 and named it Vesikko. During the Winter War and Continuation War, Vesikko saw action in convoys and on protection and patrol duty in the Gulf of Finland. The submarine base was located in the shipyard section of Suomenlinna. The Treaty of Paris (1947) forbade Finland from having military submarines, and the fleet was decommissioned and sold for scrap with the exception of Vesikko, which was put in dry dock.
There were 5 subs: Saukko,Vesikko,Vetehinen, Vesihiisi and Iku-Turso

U 1 to U 6 were copies of Vesikko and known as Type IIa. Later Type II boats were slightly larger. The main differences between Vesikko and Type IIa are slightly different conning tower and that Vesikko was constructed by riveting and welding but Type IIa boats were only welded

I saw her twice and didn't expect she is only remaining example of IIA type !!!

Thanks to you both http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

After all my time, I never ceased to be amazed that it was possible to do anything much, let alone make war with such primitive machines.

I learned some ASW/sub stuff in the RAN and I wasn't too impressed then, let alone someone going to war using 1930's-40's gear.

I guess thats one reason I like SH so much! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
