View Full Version : Cheater Hysteri***

OK, I think enough is enough.

Well, this is all very interesting, BUT...

I think I have seen the words "You Cheater" more times today then I have in the entire time I have been flying on-line.

There is "Cheater" hysteria going on now. Let me assure some of you. "Some" of you are bad pilots. (Just like I am most of the time) A guy that B&Z or has more "E" than you and climbs to an attack from under you isnt ALWAYS a cheater.

Likewise, pilots that slow down or turn inside you MIGHT be using trim and flaps.

Everyone might want to take a chill pill and realize that sometimes, the guy that just beat you is better than you are.

People LOVE the word cheater because it exhonorates them of their "Otherwise" terrible flying.

I don't understand the upset about this. I've been hearing about speedhack stuff since the first IL2 it seems. If I yelled cheater every time someone has better energy or position than I have, I'd be yelling it most of the time.

Often, my flying is lousy as heck, plain and simple. And there is always some one better.

I have yet to fly online since this episode has broken out, but I can only hope that it's not spoiling the atmosphere for players there also. http://www.geocities.com/adlabs6/B/bin/1/indifferent.gif

Flying online is as much about interacting with other LIVING human beings as it about the game. If someone wants to cheat they are only cheating their selves. I will NOT let a cheater ruin my good time. There wil always be these people, but I realy believe that online paranoia is not the answer either. OK, who's next in line to shoot down the Cherokee? God knows that by now I am used to it.

Exposing the cheating is a good thing, witch hunts are certainly a bad thing. Set your conf.ini to where you feel comfortable and let the game decide who's who.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You mean like when you accused me of having a G suit on Greatergreen the other night? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think we barrel rolled from 4k down to the deck, fighting blackout more than each other. Anyway, great fight Fehler and S!

Hey, why don't you turn your K9 loose on the cheaters/whiners?

Even if this was an open source code and there were many more ways of cheating, cheating would still be a rare occurence as most flight simmers don't want to cheat.

If all one can do in FB is use a speed hack mod then I bet less than 1% of pilots are using it.

I didnt accuse you. I was merely asking if you knew "if" they modeled it or not.

Thinking you were a little faster than me, I was trying to stay on the edge of blackout and just in front of your guns. Hoping, which didnt happen, that you would pull that little extra amount to try a shot on me and black completely out. My plan didnt work.. Much to my eventual chagrin.

If it seemed like I was calling you a cheat, I'm sorry. What I asked you was something like this, "Does that thing blackout?" or something like that. LOL I was thinking, geez, this guy gonna blackout or not?!? LOL

Then I wondered "IF" they modeled the G-suit or not. I just dont have much time in the plane to know.

That little fight was funny. I went full black 2 times I think.. 4k to the deck, but couldnt shake you. Good flying!

I would agree. I mean, most sim gamers are not your typical 1st person shooter guys. There are egos here, for sure, but I think people like an even match-up.

Not to mention that most of your typical flight sim'ers are the "Old fart" types that dont cheat. (Unless they take a stroke or two off their golf game) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If you cheat in golf, you cheat in life. Cheating in golf is the highest form of cheating, much more so than in a computer video game.

Edited for needless comments, sorry.

I'm just seeing the likely results of hosts trying to fix something that probably isn't broken at all. I agree with RayBan, a TINY minority are using a speedhack. If hosts act, in response to constant fear (and VERY likely pressure from those who fly on their servers) that they are being cheated out of kills, and respond by tightening their connection settings in the name of stamping out hacks, then what becomes of those players who's midline connections will be filtered out also?

Quite a few servers on HL will kick my dialup ping before I can even select a plane and spawn. I've played with nice guys like BP_Gemini, who forgot to set his lag settings after patching, and even with his server full, there was no lag complaints with my 300 range ping. Fun all around. When he sets his more stringent lag settings as he usually does, I am lucky to stay connected for 5 minutes.

The few servers I do play on like VFC*HOST, GreaterGreen, MOH and AFJ are apparently not very strict on my connection, as I am practically never kicked for ping alerts. I've been told by more than one host, that my dialup is surprisingly stable, and I'm rarely if ever named as a source of "lag" other than by those who are focused on the ping numbers. It's been this way for over a year and a half.

If that changes and I my 330 ping is not acceptible because of (perhaps unfounded?) fears that I'm a cheater, I've got no reason to play FB the little bit that I do these days.

In other words, FB goes on the shelf.

How much more messed up can the community get, than it members not being able to participate?

As one of those old farts I see the problem as more of an acasional inconvenience as 90% of this community are fanatical about the realism in this sim and would not cheat even if they knew how. I find it hard to believe that anyone would spend so much time and money just to get points in a game.
I want to become a good pilot, there is no short cut, thats why I spend 80% of my time pracicing off line.
Its not about points, its the thrill of beating another pilot in an equal fight.

oh, no. I`ve seen this problem in past online games. The main problem is not really the cheating itself, but the RUMOUR of cheating. Now anyone who gets shot down and thinks it shouldn`t happen will throw around accusations.

Also, don`t fool yourselves, the older ones among us won`t cheat, but they`re are plenty of FB flyers out there who are happy to. I hope this speed hack does not exist.

no need to panic about cheating. Cheating is inherently self-defeating. Noone can get satisfaction doing it over the long run. So cheaters eventually get bored and quit. Cheaters are always newbies. And they don't stay in the game long. So if you see any long-time player that is very good, i will guarantee he is not cheating. Now if you see a new player that is an ace, then you might have reason to suspect. But don't worry, cheaters will always be a small minory.

I don't see what satisfaction they get. I play offline with settings on full-real, I get shot down all the time, but I won't change. There is more honor in geting shot down in a fair fight than geting a kill by cheating.
