Just a rant to vent some angst.

New Guinea offline USAAF campaign. Me and five P-38L on an hour, one way, CAS mission. We get 12 P-39s for an escort.

I get to the target and ALL NINE of the enemy A6Ms target me. NOT ONE of the SEVENTEEN AI pilots on my side chases a Zero. "Nice day for a fly, what?"

If you don't mind me asking, why do you own rocks? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Actually I find the AI in 4.02 the best we've ever had.....and woe be to the opponent that attacks me if I have a wingman.

try tab-7 (anyone help me)....see where that gets you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Use voice command program.
Fly wise yourslef and give proper command.
4.02 AI is best ever.

Tab 7 didn't help. Nor did tab 2 3.
I think they just took the day off. It's not normally this bad, I figure they all rolled ones or something on target selection. I had a bad day is all.

Quite often my #3 guy gets the bad guys like a lawnmower.

And nothing like playing a little CFS2 to remind one how good the AI here really is.

And for the record, I have sandstone rocks with a little quartz mixed in for flavor.

I agree with the fact that 4.02 AI is the best we´ve seen so far...I like the way my wingman sticks to me and covers my butt when asked, as well as how do AI planes really maneuver when are attacked, barrel rolling, slpitting, etc...I´m having more fun offline than ever.

LOL, I know what you mean. Had FB for a while, finally got PF last week (now I just need AEP).

PLaying the Japan offline campaign, a simple Ground attack mission, we have a flight of 8 P-47D-27s, Im flying number 2. we fly in perfect formation over Kyushu, where there is a nice hill, that unfortuneately(sp) comes right up to the altitude we are flying at. My four plane section barely misses it, while the other 4 planes of our flight merrily fly into the hillside as if it wasn't there at all. I find the AI to be pretty good in the other campaigns, but it seems to have problems with this one.

I take that back. In the previous mission (New Guinea Campaign, I was doing all three) I was flying a P-39 on a scramble mission. I had downed an Oscar and a Zero, and padlocked on another one when two of my flight got on his tail.... and both collide with each other, allowing the Zero to escape for a few minutes while I dive on him and give him a 3 second burst. Some days the AI is incredible, other days it barely knows how to fly (not that I can complain... I botched my landing and wound up crash landing and being wounded, hence being out of action until Japan.)

Well sedimentary and metamorphic rocks are well known to have sub-rock intellignece. Try collecting Igneous rocks. They are much brighter.

4.02 ai in Il2 is probably the best ai yet. In PF however.........

btw is there anyway to spice it up?

There's a little bug that pops up from time to time in any version. AI that don't have an immediate target assigned will sometimes ignore threats, despite all communications to the contrary http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Mission designers generally design missions with this in mind, however if you've cruised faster or slower than the mission designer planned for, or away from the course he/she planned and the resulting enemy intercept occurs away from the waypoint where offensive/defensive action occurs, you can find yourself in this situation despite the mission designer's best efforts.

How about if the two rocks had the coconut on a piece of string? Dunno how they'd hold the string though.

Yes, you must "become" the rock.
