I have this uncle who has shrapnel in his head and lives in our Attic. He never leaves the house. We leave a food tray for him outside his door and when he is done we pick it up. He is a Korean war vet with schizophrenia and toureetes syndrome, hence why he never leaves the house. But he is very computer literate. He is unemployed, mentally ill and spends all his time on his PC. These to me seem like good qualifications to be a moderator. Are there any positions open here? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Schizophrenia and toureetes syndrome?

Well at least he could close his own postings the next day for using bad speech...

... and wonder who the guy is, that banned him yesterday.

Is this some kind of poor attempt at humour, AFish2?

The story is funny, I'll give you that.
But Pointing at the moderators is kind of........

I usually don't get along to well with them
but I learned not to hit them with switches.

And since I stopped doing that?
We get along a bit better.

LOL

Having been a moderator for just a little while has taught me a few things. I can tell you this, RJ, tuddley, Minoos, and klcarroll all are are terrific guys and have terrific senses of humor. Me, most of you know I like to joke around too. But for them and me it is sometimes very difficult to tell what is a joke and what is serious. The use of the emoticons up in the upper left hand corner can go along way to telling someone whether you are just joking or not. I'm sure Realjambo wasn't offended, but like I said, sometimes it is very hard to tell. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I know that first hand.
First it's the language, then cultural divide then it's hard to keep sarcasm on a friendly note and finaly you end up offending someone, allthough you were telling a joke! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I had that mishap with KLcarrol and since then he wouldn't have anything to do with me.

I haven't taken any offence Afish2- I didn't understand what the motivation or intention of the joke was - hence my question.

It's good that, what is in my view, the biggest single failing of any forum has been bought to light - and that is when posts can potentially be interpreted in a way that the original author didn't intend them to be taken and I have to agree with Tambor - The use of emoticons (when they are all working!) can change the tone or underlying message of a post in a single click and I heartily recommend using them!

@ Messervy - Kl is away presently, so please don't think you not getting a response from him in this thread as him ignoring you - he's away chasing Tornadoes.

Now, a drink methinks, on me - it's my round, what are all we having? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My motivation is being up too late and I started to think that being a moderator it seems that you guys or gals never sleep and for some quarky reason the story of my crazy uncle seemed funny to me. You have to understand that i am the guy who brought a goat back while we were in Italy and deemed it funny to put it in the "goat locker" (term for CPO quarters). let's just say I did not get any more liberty while we were in Italy. Submariners show their comradre and affection in odd ways and I suppose that is what I do at times. has it got me in trouble? Yep! But who loves ya baby? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
