Yes, thats right. The mod itself is just a few days away.

(No mention of it here, so I had to let you know)

PS: Its nightime in Norway (GMT+1), that why the header is a bit confusing.

No self respecting SH3 player should play without GWX once its out -I cant stress this enough.
GWX will make SH3 everything SH3 should have been plus more. RUB, IUB, NYGTM and GW1.a have all be great mods at some point or another, But none of them will prepare you for GWX.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

GWX stands for Grey Wolves X the sequel to what is already arguably the best SH3 mod - Grey wolves 1.a its due out about any time now.
It contains LOADs nad LOADS more content over the stock game of Silent Hunter 3 - maybe more than double - god knows. This new content varies from everything to new units, mechanics, eye candy and new operational theaters to name a few - and tons of top secret stuff that wont be uncovered until its released. It will breathe new life in to SH3, over at subsim.com sh3 fans are foaming at the mouth over this one. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Great news! At last! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I wonder if we'll have to uninstall the existing version of GW before installing GWX, or if the installer can do an 'upgrade'? (obviously with current saved game in port). Or maybe a clean install of SH3 might be the best course of action.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Unless, of course, your system can't handle it.

In all seriousness, will a GW career be compatible with GWX? I've put a lot of work into my present career, and I'm not anxious to start again.

I think he meant to type GWX. The wrong letters maybe because his left hand was wrongly placed over the "home" keys. It happens time to time when a touch typist gets a hand out of place over the keys.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Viking mate,

the official reccommendation, and i think in fact requirement, is for a clean install of SH3. It does not, iirc, upgrade from GW.

There's no need to go overboard. There were things I liked about GW and things I didn't like about it, and I expect GWX to be the same - enticing with lots of eye candy and goodies but irritating at the same time because it does certain things in ways I don't like. I say the same about every supermod, which is why I prefer slowly but surely building up my own customised SH3. It'll never be a supermod but it plays the way I want it to.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Its not up yet, but I`ll post a link when it is. (The fastest way is probably to keep an eye on the subsim forums)

Yes, GWX will require a brand new installation of SH3 patched to 1.4b. The reason for this is what the devs call a spiderweb of coding that would probabably crash the game if used with GW 1.1a.

The amount of content is just sick. (Around 800MB download, with over twice as many filechanges as GW 1.1a)

The manual itself is rumoured to be around 200 pages. (the manual for the beta was more than 100 pages, so there is much new-new too, hehe)

Right, hands up those on dial up internet only! There's gonna be some blank CD burning and trips to the post box I think. I've done GW for a couple of Kaleuns before I admit, but I don't have many blank cd's left.....<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

As long as they do the right thing like they did with GW and make it available on a properly configured FTP server that supports download managers then it won't be a problem. The biggest download I have done on dialup is a 1.2GB SDK from Microsoft. It was a background process so I didn't care if it took a few days. It's not like I was trying to watch a movie.

OTOH, if they use one of those moronic "free" servers that either force you to use the browser to do the download or pay them so you can use the download management functionality that's been basic to the Internet for twenty years then people on dialup will have problems.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It will be uploaded to several misrrors, and one of them is filefront, which supports download managers.

To those with low end systems, I get more fps in GWX than in GW 1.1a. XFX 7900GS 256MB (7950GT 512MB later today, YEAH!), ABIT KN8 SLI, 2GB RAM, Audigy SE, AMD Athlon 64 3800+, Mist 500W.

I dont know what the less powerful systems get, but there were no complaints during beta testing, and some of the testers have low end hardware.

I had well over 100fps at sea, by the way. (With 8xAA and 16xAF)

Thanks for that Stabiz. You are leap frogging my new 7900GT it seems with your GFX cards there!

So is Subsim the best place to check for when GWX is downloadable? If I'm honest I don't go there very often.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Damn. So no compatibility.

I think I'll finish my present GW career before updtating. Good to know though, before I went and ruined my campaign with a unfixable error.

Just read through the manual, and found one mistake: on page 70, it says "Dutch Naval Command under Vice Admiral Conrad Lambert".
This should be "Dutch Naval Command under Vice Admiral Conrad E.L. Helfrich".
Looking forward to release of GWX- am already planning a total re-install and this will include installing SH3 with GWX, and IL2 Sturmovik 46.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

What a manual! It is the perfect example of how such a manual shall look like. Plenty of historical background and then how it is pictured in the game.

I have downloaded it and quickly read about 1/3, and it is very interesting. I will surely download the mod as fast as it is availiable.

Thank you very much - developers of GWX!!
