View Full Version : Realistic servers?

Whilst I'm getting into this sim in SP campaigns, MP has yet to light my fire. This is largely because I have yet to find a realistic server where you actually have Allied vs Axis sides. Better still, how about a server which models years - i.e. it's 1943, and you can only fly aircraft up until then, rather than everyone taking the latest and best aircraft from 1945. Surely, there must be some servers like that out there? If so, please let me know. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Bump for better info on the servers. Some don't have version 4.05, yet it doesn't say that until you connect.

If you use AllSeeingEye (http://www.udpsoft.com/eye/doc.html) you see that and most other settings on the server http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

As for servers with year/theatre matched planesets heres a few:

Spits_vs_109s 4.05m - 69.9.37.146:21010
Zeke_vs_Wildcat 4.05m - 69.9.37.146:21005
Winds of War Server 4.05m - 70.87.121.84:21000

Well, it is better to look for "maps" or "missions". Many dedicated servers have several kinds of missions to cater for the varying needs of different people, so the very same server may be running a late-war map for 2 hours, and then a map from 1942 for another 2 hours.

The servers are announced in this thread:
"Dedicated servers and online wars", http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/190106645/p/3 , larger servers even have their own websites where you can see which mission is playing when, so attend the missions that you like.

for years, cince IL2 was released, i flew alamost only COOP based online wars - like IOW, VEF, VOW - these wars marched trough the time line of WW2 , with all its battles that are possible to recreate with this game!
with peaple on VoiceComms, this was the best how this game could be played.

now, all the mentioned wars are over http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif - i still have not found a COOP online war that i like. personal taste, i know..........

as for Dogfightmap based "missions" i prefer in the moment
http://www.warbirdsofprey.org/ &
http://www.nikkyo.dynu.com/fastats/index.php

an Dogfightmap based online war you can find here
http://www.adwwar.com/en/
but for that you must been registered with a squad of at least 4 pilots.

Your welcome to try the new "World @ War server 4.04m 72.36.238.242. Each map depicts a year in the war & a different theatre...1940(only 1940 era plane sets), 1941(only 1941 era plane sets & so on.
They are objective based & on a time limit. Check your stats or see what map is playing on www.aircombatgroup.com (http://www.aircombatgroup.com)

For those who wish to fly the heavy bombers & AI planes, try the ACG Dedicated server 404m...64.69.38.42

WarbirdsOfPrey (includes Zekes-vs-Wildcats and Spits-vs-109's) http://www.warbirdsofprey.org/index.php

Winds of War

HISTORIA and NormandieNiemann (these two cater well to those who still enjoy flying eastern front...like me and HISTORIA has skin download ON!) http://www.gozr.net/iocl/index.php

These are where you'll find me 95% of the time as they have objective-based maps, the sides have (mostly) historical planesets, they all incorporate a nice mix of early and late-war scenarios, they each have public TeamSpeak channels for the pilots flying there and they also attract some of the better pilots online IMO.

Make sure to bring (or get) a wingman and get on coms though...you'll need it to be competitive as you'll meet others that do as well.

You should have a look at ADW if you haven't already. It's the best online war I've played bar none and there's none of the hanging round waiting for co-op starts either. Powered by Gennadich, the forthcoming WW1 sim people.

Strict chronological planesets, eastern front, stacks of players (European evening time, players mainly Russian and Mainland Europe). Squads only. If that rings your bell.

ADW Website (http://www.adwwar.com/en/#)

The front map updates every hour with the results of the last hour's conflict (server restarts every hour).

The AustralianSkies and WTE_AusServer servers on HL have historically oriented missions that cover all years and all fronts.

The servers are in Australia, so they may not suit European pilots. PLease check your ping before joining.

The settings are "harder" than many other servers with: cockpit-only, no externals and very short range icons (almost no icons).
