I've just started reading "The Jolly Rogers" by Tom Blackburn (Navy Squadron VF-17 flying Corsairs) and wanted to try them out in IL2+++ but realise that you can only start campaigns in either 1942 (flying F4F4s or 1945 flying F4U1Ds). Can you not join a squadron between 1942 and 1944/45?

Because there are no maps for the theaters involved in 1943 and 1944. Because there aren't.

Yes it sucks.

I am wondering/think if it is possible to build a semi-fictional DGen campaign using the Pacific Islands map to represent some of the Solomons fighting . . .

hmm...well I'm most way through the Jolly Rogers book (which btw is awesome) and they did mostly training until 1944 when they were deployed to Henderson field and in that general area (ie. mostly attacking Rabaul). I know we've got Henderson field there already - why no Corsair campaigns?

There's no Jolly Roger's corsair campaign as of yet, but D-Humphrey recently released a Corsairs at Guadalcanal campaign. Flying with the VMF-214 'Black Sheep' squadron.

Check the Mission Builder's forum, he's got a thread live for that, and his other two current campaigns.

Hi Pharoah,

Check out Lowengrins DDG Campaign generator. http://www.lowengrin.com
You should be able to do something with it to get your Corsairs. And remember, Tom Blackburn started in Wildcats off the carrier Charger? Using them at Operation Torch, put one in the drink if I recall correctly. Though with a different squadron. Goodluck mate.

I am working on one now for the Jolly Rogers.

I am using other maps to substitute for Bougainville and Rabaul, and I have finished the 1st 8 missions. I don't know how long it will be, but I would guess at least 30 missions. I will start a progress thread if you want to see a little more of it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
