found this quote in and aviation mag

"for rocket launching the correct dive angle was 15degrees and the ideal hit was to have them hit the water 150ft short of the target as they were designed to level out 12feet below the surface. An ideal hit on the hull of the ship would result with a 1ft square hole on entry and if it made it to the other side the rocket would make a hole 2ft squrae"

it would be awesome to have these rockets in PF http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Sounds more like the "Rocket Spears" used by FAA aircraft (like the Swordfish) for sub-hunting.

British 3inch rockets were fitted either with a 60lb(27Kg) HE warhead or a 25lb(11.3Kg) solid shot warhead.
Originally the solid shot was for tanks and the HE for ships but they found they worked better the other way around.
The rocket could travel for a considerable distance underwater and still penerate the hull of a ship or submarine.
Some info on the rockets-
HE warhead contained 14lb(6.35Kg) of TNT.
Rocket with HE warhead, velosity 350m/s(1150fps)
Rocket with 25lb warhead, velosity 460m/s(1500fps)
