Went looking through the main game folder where one sees the audio folders and wave files for the various countries/pilot's voices, and noticed a new one-called 'sounds'. It has short recordings of things with titles like 'IJN carrier' or 'Navy Siren' I've searched through both readme files, the printed booklet, the manual on the cd- and still can't seem to find any info on just how or when they are used.
I have not yet heard any of these sound files being used by the game itself (pf+fb+aep merged) and am wondering for what purpose they have been included? Or is there an obvious reason that I am missing them in game- like maybe they wont work in the merged version or with the new .exe?

Do you have "Menu music" enabled - do you play DGen dynamic (offline) campaigns?

Try it...

Doh!
It was the obvious one..... had the tracks for take off, in flight and crash enabled -but forgot the 'play music' toggle. Hear them fine now in campaign during the briefing screens....
I have even done a little creative editing with them by mixing the carrier tracks with the 'all hands'and the 'navy siren' track- placing the result in the take-off music folder.
Adds a nice effect while waiting to get off the carrier deck.... thanks for the info !

The music score was done by some one else. What I did for PF are the Sound Effects that you find under sounds directory. Those SFX are for the campaigns found in PF.

Extreme, let see if Vadim or Ilya still want more of my work. Haven't heard from them in regards to it.

NTESLA, were there any plans discussed or currently planned to add sound effects retroactively to the FB-AEP campaigns also ? That would be too cool !

Not that I know of, but there is much room for additional SFX for Pacific Fighters.

I agree, it would be great to have this in the FB/AEP missions as well, not just PF.

Mission builders can (and will I'm sure) add the briefing sounds to custom made campaigns...

I've created some of my own as well as using the stock sounds but I'm going to get a real expert on the case... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just a short reply here. How would I go about sending you a copy of the mixed audio file? I am doing some experimenting, looking for an optimum length for the track /loop... and have added some voice content simulating the ships p.a. 'Attention: All hands to battle stations -Alert- This is not a drill- repeat- this is not a drill' ....... (perhaps something here you or ntesla may be interested in at some point........?)
Have also written my own menu score- a bit darker sounding than the theme already in the game- and a theme containing some sound effects...
