Just watched the whole "ALL_AEP.trk" and WOW ... all those fantasy planes and what if's. Thank you, Mr. Maddox and team, for not listening to those historical-plane-sets-only advocates. We've got a lot more choices now to have fun ... remember folks ... we play games for fun right?

If you want to argue this is not a game, it's a flight sim ... ok ... we play flight sims for fun too. Most of us do. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Yes, thanks Oleg and team.

Actually, I prefer historical "what if" possibilities like if Germany won the WAR or delayed defeat till later. They will Whine that He~177 with Player-usable engines will be Fantasy Plane along with its MiG~3U opponent. And of coarse, they will Whine that Bf-109B does not belong in a WW2 flight sim. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

It's when one comes at the expense of another that people get upset. And it is easier to make the case for historical accuracy.

We may still be thinking of Microsoft. Its hard not to with our daily computer boot up screen in our faces.

The only gripe that I have (and it's not a major one) is that the Spitfires that we will be getting in the future (pointy tail ix, bubble canopy xiv) aren't really the ones that saw a lot of action with the RAF (Although they were there). There are good reasons for that: modeller preferences and VVS/Eastern Front orientation.

But I do have an imagination, and this game is still pretty fun. And you have to love that Spit V! (Incidently, the round-tail LF.ixc and the regular canopy xiv were the main RAF fighters from 1943-1945.)

Oh, and I don't care if we get a go-229. I even flew it once! Haven't flown the YP-80 yet - but then again I've only flown the 262 a handful of times.

Why cant we have BOTH kinds of planes? So what if they are fantasy? The other players still have historical planes to fly, and if you want to spice things up add some things you WISH were there. Doing this will draw a much greater audience and everyone should be pleased.. I dont see why people get so pissed off with this, it makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE...

If people don't want certain planes in the game, host one themselves.

Even a dialup can host.

Oso::
quote:
But I do have an imagination, and this game is still pretty fun.

Yes, I agree totally with the imagination idea. Unless we have imagination, we will never have fun with flight sims. Remember when we had to use Yak~1 for Spitfire?

I see you are very plane specific, or plane focused--on the Spitfire in your case, and there may be no clear defined amount of "historical accuracy" that will make you Happy. The Fw and P~51 types are exactly the same way. All I know is that when you love all the planes equally, you have a far different view that I cannot describe in words. Its like taking a first step into a larger world. Like simming in a higher dimension when I see the misery around me, here, at the ubi.com. That's all I know how to say. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Of course, total and complete Mastery of the FMB and undocumented AI Features gives one an advantage, and indeed is the only way to get historical correct combat results at the squadron level or higher.

For some, FB is a Spitfire flight sim, or an Fw190 flight sim, or a P~51 flight sim. Not that there is anything wrong with plane specific sims, other than they date from 20 years ago.

Fb109Z and P~38L came on the same CD, at least for my Region 1 CD. haha Region 2 simmers, don't know what they will get. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif

I think one of the best things about FB is its flexability.
Sometimes you need a bit of imagination, at other times a bit of inginerity ( I hope I spelled that right.
Either way you can end up creating scenarios from many theatres of the War.
Example below at link.

Touche! :-) I'm probably not as bad as I sound. These are major spotting features (I just happen to know the technical names for them.) I figure that if I can look out of my cockpit and spot something wrong at 300 metres then the model could be changed/improved. Incidentally, I do fly other planes, but like most people I have a few faves.

But as I said before, imagination & fun are the key ingredients and I have no complaints there!

BTW, I find this game a lot more interesting if the weather is changed grom 12:00 clear to 8am/pm hazy or something... It just looks more "believable" to me.

Yep, we fly for fun. And after the newness wears off most of the FR rooms will be flying the more conventional birds again. Everyone wins...

I am usually all about historical planes etc. but I just tried dogfighting my buddy with YP-80's, and I find myself asking "Could someone please model a Mig15?" - Cause all you need is that + Online mountain map + YP-80, P-51 & YAK-9 and we've got Korean War at our hands :-P

Yes, yes yes, I know, this IS a WW2 flight simulation, but the Korean "Police Action" qualifies as a "Forgotten Battle" - I can think of one flight sim on that subject (Mig Alley) which was made by Rowan.. yeah.. doesn't say much about the quality.

So, anyways, put the flamethrower down, I'll go back to my 39-45 era planes... :-)
