View Full Version : Atmosphere and Depth of the Game

I think that there are two areas where Silent Hunter V could make a big leap forward.

1)Disclaimer: I know the emphasis in silent hunter should always, quite rightly, be on the action out at sea BUT... this time lets make a little more out of the in port section of the game.... not just a command office. Maybe people could post realistic suggestions for this here on this thread?

2)Crew - Let's have proper Crew profiles.

Wouldn't it be great to be able to look through files of potential crew members /Officers? To be able to read a little about the officer's background and abilities - what he's good at and not so good at... and then, after surveying a few files in depth, to choose the man you want on your boat? Again, any other ideas or constructive suggestions guys?

It would be interesting to see your "in port" time and your "Refit and Re-arm" time and cost vary according to the amount of damage you collected on your previous patrol.

I would be all for personell files. It would be nice that certain sailors had better skills which would result in a quicker advancement to being a specialist for being a gunner, radio man, engineer, ect. I think it would also be nice to be able to review files at port after a patrol that would list the cause of death for those that died. In SH III they just died from an attack. Doesnt say if they were killed because they were hit by shards of metal and glass, or if he was killed by being slammed up against the interior of the hull.

Doesn't SHIII do this? It always seems to make me stay in port longer after damage, but maybe not.

There is a feature that allows you to have a random in port stay period. But I cant remember if that is part of the basic game or if that was added when I had the U Boat commander program. Just wished there was one of those for Silent Hunter IV. I kept hearing the idea got scrapped.

it's quit late to come up with ideas since the game comes out in a month, but dreaming is still permitted,so.
the moment i arive in the port i would like to see my crew leave the boat and meet up with the folks on the shore(friends, girlfriends, naval officers and wounded getting shipped off by the medical staff).after that i would like to have time to walk trough the boat or over the deck and leave it to the watch before going to shore and have a last look at my boat before i get into a waiting car and leave(the car driving to the navy hq could be a short animation that stops at the moment you would enter your office for the de-brief).
but as one said years ago;"i have a dream."...
