A simple answer - NO.

Unfortunately the Lancaster is not even featured in the game, nevermind flyable.

Welcome to the forums BTW http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oh dear...such a shame....and a suprise!

Not to worry, im sure i'll enjoy the game any way hehe.

Are there any plans to have the Lancaster modelled and made useable?

Many thanks

No.

Work on IL2 has stopped almost a year ago, AFAIK and there won't be any major updates in regards of planes being modelled, etc. A patch 4.09 is being worked on, but that will include static objects, maps and textures, as the main content was made by 3D-party-developers.

IL2 always had a hard time including multi-engined planes, because it bases upon the original engine, which was aimed to represent the EasternFront in WW2. Battles were usually won at rather low altitudes and with single-engined planes like the IL2.

Therefore any multi-engined plane had to be heavily scripted to even stay in the air.

The sequel to IL2: StormOfWar: Battle Of Britain will use a completely rewritten engine, that will make it much easier to modell multi-engined planes and it will also modell high-altitude-maneuvering more realistic. I have no doubt that we will see bombers like the B17 and the Lancaster in a later addon, considering how many people demanded for years to include flyable bombers in IL2. It should be also noted, that when playing SoW online, you will have the choice to join the crew of another player and man the guns! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

Capt.LoneRanger......

Well thanks for the info, much appreciated. Im understanding things a little more now hehe.

Im liking the possibility of being able to have a group of guys all in the same bomber though, that sounds good, imagine if we could do that and have everyone in the plane on 'comms', all shouting orders to each other hehe.

'Bandits at 12 o'clock' !!!!!!!

Nice.....

Nah mate, unfortunately.

Never fear though, eventually in Maddox Games' sequel Storm of War the Lanc will be in-game/flyable.

Edit: Capt beat me to it.

Not all the positions in a plane is equally fun to man, particularly in the large planes. If you plan to have a bomber co-op with some mates, I suggest the A-20 or Ju88, bout are really interesting planes to fly!

There's always one!

So, i pop onto Ebay this morning and buy myself a new game. I quickly visit google.co.uk to see if i can find a forum for the new game as i would like to ask a simple question.

I post my question only to be accused of 'Phishing' and Spamming.

Is this generally the way people behave on this forum, if so i will close my account and move on. Im sure there are other forums that i can use.

Just so you are aware, i have never used this forum or this game before. May i also politely suggest that in future you keep your suspicions to yourself.

Welcome to the forum and game, Trebz.

There might ultimately be a Storm of War Lancaster, in the fullness of time, but I would expect that to be two of three years off.

In the meantime there are some other sims which allow you to fly the Lancaster, although I don't know any that combine graphics quality of IL2 quality AND allow multi-crewing AND allow you to bomb things. There are a few more options for simming with the B17.

Based on Warbirds II and III experiences there is some dramatic tension being in a well flown combat box online, trying to swat down fighters, but your chances of actually downing one are small. Lancasters didn't tend to be flown in such formations. Trying to hit anything from a maneouvering bomber is very difficult!

Since there are 50 mods around now, I will let you have the last word. I can't believe you are carrying a grudge this long. Sad. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Don't take this as an offence. I think "Fishing & spamming" was meant to be in a funny way. Sometimes banned or bored forum gurus appear in disquise, and make a concealed attempt to incite huge debates. Most of them turn out to be humorous threads.

However, the issue of flyable bombers is a difficult one, there were lots of heated criticism directed to the lack of flyable B-17 and British bombers. Especially from newcomers, who forgot to realize that IL-2 models tactical warfare on smaller map sizes, while the long-range bombers are part of the strategical warfare. This is the explanation why the game developer never intended to add flyable long-range bombers to the sim/game.

We are all bored waiting for BOB and people post these things all of the time. Another vain attempt at humor on my part.

No there are no heavy bombers. There are no A-26's, either.

Certain planes have the sight offset. Use Ctrl+E to center the sight. It's not documented.
