View Full Version : Gutsy PF Review at Flightsim.com

Due to the lack of recognition (and skins) available for the best combat sim (guess which one I'm talking about) at Flightsim.com, I'd written them off as being in M$ pocket. Now they've come up with a REAL surprise. Next to an on-again/off-again ad that touts CFS3 as "the most realistic - yadda yadda yadda" Andrew Herd writes a balanced review about Pacific Fighters. My eyeballs almost bounced off the monitor when I read this quote: "try it once and you will never willingly go back to CFS3."

Andrew says he had trouble releasing the brakes on the carrier deck (RTFM Andy). Can we say "chocks?" He couldn't get the gear up or down on the Wildcat either. Someone send him the operating manual for the Rata ok? When you've got the landing gear figured out, you'll notice the hand crank on the right hand side of the F4F spinning madly ... way cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I understand how the reviewer missed these features however. PF is so much fun, who wants to spend precious time reading the manual http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

The crank spinning like crazy is cool and made even better by the fact that the noise from the gear being raised continues almost 10 to 15 seconds after you stop cranking......some bugs are fun. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I can start planes on the carrier decks, but cannot get the engines to continue running; they cut as soon as I stop pressing the 'I' key.

What can we expect from a CFS3 refugee? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif Send us your arcade nOObs, your disappointed, your weary and you will be welcomed with patches and promises.

Seriously, PF has a lot of promise but it also needs a lot of work. If it wasn't for Mr. Maddox's history of fixing problems I would have been disappointed.

Highly recommended to copy AEP or other latest IL2 sim to another drive until the patches are in.

That happens becuz the device depends on number of button clicks. If you hit the button 137 times, the device will spin 137 times even if the gear is raised/lowered.

Hmm. the review says flyable Dinah?

I wish!

I don't think that reviewer knows his ___ from a whole in the ground.

He may not, but in any case he is a respected member of the MSFS community, a long time developer for the MS line of sims, and an avid bush pilot. . . I appreciate him writing that review and posting there, as I know that his word will go far to contribute to this sim over at what is the largest resource for MS sim users. I certainly won't be bashing him for it.

I agree there's no need to bash someone of Andrew's stature when he's obviously written a positive report to the best of his knowledge. Flightsim.com is mostly Microsoft oriented so I'm wondering if he'll have to duck when he's out from behind his monitor now.

He directly mentions he has been playing with the beta with the full arriving at the end of the review. You can tell from the way he talks about Singapore being in there too :>

If Corey Dillon is healthy in the playoffs I'll be sending you a consiliatory beverage of your choice as I watch the Pats play....well.... who ever doesn't suck in the NFC in the SUPERBOWL!!!!!!!!

I don't expect a spanking again from the Steel Cities great football team. Either way I look forward to the post seasons playoff finale.

Pats 27
Steelers 14

regards,
Robert

sorry but im NOT going to fly or trust ( RL)a pilot who doesnt read the manual.
Period.
I always loose russian roulette games

The fact that the block lives is apparently a streak of luck. Not knowhow. I trust he does better going off in real planes.

Reviewer didn't realize F-4-F gear is crank yourself...tooo bad.Review is valid in many ways , but comparison with what else exists in same field is really all that matters...does anyone think the CFS Pacific game is in anyway any better? Has anyone on this thread seenor played it & what are your thoughts?

The lame DM and the similar missions kinda sank it for me after a while. The only thing it had the PF doesn't is an LSO to help you land on decks.
