View Full Version : New Campaign US vs. USSR 1945

In my free time I was going to start some work on a static campaign. I figured I'd come up with my own more realistic scenario of the outbreak of hostilities in Europe in the Fall of 1945 just after the Fall of Germany and the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan.

Anyways I had a couple requests... one is for ideas for aircraft and historical units stationed at the time in Europe around Berlin, Belguim, and France (the maps we have) if such a conflict were to take place.

The other question was what is the keystroke to destroy a large quantity of objects in the mission builder? Instead of going through and click one by one... Thanks!

Dunno just how you can make your buddies to shoot at allies... you can set up "radio silence" waypoints, but I doubt that they'll attack what they perceive to be allies. All game is set up that way...

Deffinitely use the Berlin Airlift. It might make a great starting point for a conflict. Escorting C47's ... intersept missions ... Escorting B29's over Moscow ...

My God, It'l be beautiful.

You'll have to use skins and the Neutral country color to create that Aura. If you want to play as the US, the US is red, USSR is white, or vice-versa.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I was probably just going to go from the American POV so I'll just make the Soviets blue, and track down historical/semi historical skins...

I was thinking a modified Berlin Airlift as well... basically it starts

February 1943 after the Yalta Conference the Allies agree that nothing less than total surrender will be accepted from Germany

Early Spring 1945, the end of the war is in sight, Stalin has his eyes set on Berlin but the conservative Churchill is pessimistic of his intentions, FDR is in the middle about it (heres the deviation from real history) FDR isn't sold on Stalin's intentions either that Berlin isn't important and that the Russians will just "take" the city

April 20th 1945
For the first time Hitler can hear the sound of Soviet ground artillery as it briefly pounds the center of Berlin, unknown to Russian Generals Zhukov and Koniev, they have outside competion for the capitol city as Eisenhower, spearheaded by Patton and Monty's divisions are closing in as well reaching Potsdam

Last few days of April and first week of May 1945...
the Soviets penitrate the heart of Berlin and after a vicious battle they take the Reichstag. In a pincer move the Soviets attempt to surround the city from the West (IRL they successfully did this), but run into Patton and Monty's Armies who successfully penitrate the Western edges of Berlin

THE RESULT: when the Russian and Allied Armies meet small skirmishes break out (since initially each side assumes the other is German, resulting in hostile feelings and undermining skeptisicm between the two sides)

Meanwhile as Donitz is preparing to surrender the city word gets out the Allies have arrived and the result is a mass exodus of refugees and surrendering soldiers flee to the Allied Armies in the West

This further placates the Soviets as American GIs witness firsthand many of the atrocities commited and link them first-hand with the horrors of the concentration camps

Still despite these issues the surrender is signed on May 8th, the last shots are fired in Prague on May 9th and the Second WW is Europe is over for now...

June 1945
In a stunning political victory Winston Churchill is re-elected as the prime minister over more moderate Clement Attlee.

When word reaches the press of the carnage inflicted by the Soviets and the Germans combined with Churchill's statements that he openly distrusts the Soviets putting a wedge between the British and Russians. America, although leaning towards the British is still on the fence officially, but most GIs including Patton are surveyed and show that even with weariness of war and fighting they are still bitter towards the Communists.

Late June 1945... Churchill makes a bold move, denouncing the Soviet occupation of Berlin, demanding a withdrawal of the city. He further states that since the Soviets and their intentions are not trusted and that the Soviets should open their borders in Germany to inspect by Allied officials and that no further mobilization or movement of reserve troops into German, Poland, or the Czech Republic is allowed. The Soviets do the exact opposite staunchly opposing any Allied intervetion. More reserve units are called to the front and Stalin counter-demands that the Allies must completely withdraw from Berlin, completely blockading the city from the outside world.

July 8th 1945 in China... Stalin openly accuses the US and Great Britain of undermining his demands and calls for the invasion of Manchuria against the Japanese, (a month earlier than originally agreed IRL between the three nations), his goal from the beginning is obvious, to seize as many of the Japanese home islands as possible before the Western Allies can invade.

July 9th 1945... An outraged Churchill and President Truman speak out against Stalins move... a couple squadrons of B-29s (redeployed to England due to the possible outbreak of new hostilities in Europe) and Lancanster bombers leave their bases to fire bomb the heavily forested areas and relatively unhabited ares north of Berlin as a show of force against the Soviets. The plan backfires, casulties are high and the Allies underestimate VVS fighter strength at this point. Soviet Yaks and MiGs take a heavy toll on the bombers which are forced to turn back. To make the situation worse American B-29s in the Pacific intentionally firebomb many smaller Japanese held cities in Manchuria which lie just ahead of the Soviet Army's advance. Stalin, further enraged declares that the Western Allies have broken their treaties and gives the Western Allies 48 hours to stand down and make a complete withdrawal of Germany and Austria...

whew, a little long winded, furthermore I can probably have some German units joined the allies in a futile attempt to stop a massive Soviet advance...

This is where I wish Oleg had gone, Ussia vs Russia 1946. P-82 Twin Mustang required for game install, with Merlin engines.

mmm, how's this. For whatever reason , General Patton lives to become US president in 1946, and attacks the Soviet Union.

[I]It's simple to understand. And completely credible, and convincing.

You're threading on a minefield with this one, darkhorizon. Make the Ivan guilty for starting the war and our Russian friends will hate. Make the Americans guilty like Lexx proposed and you'll have problem with yer own folks.

I think you should use a Tom Clancy-approach: make the conflict brief and violent and with a twist in the end, like some third party caused the clash between the allies. Maybe German or Japanese or Korean plot to get the superpowers to wipe out each other.

And the most importan thing - make it playable on both sides and no one should win. So there you have it - a politically clean version.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I say this sounds like a good laugh - I'm really glad to see all the free-thinking campaigns that are out/under construction. Your scenario sounds plausible enough - "What if" away!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Political correctness be damned. It doesn't matter to me which side started it...as long as I can play both sides.

I may be American, but I think this scenario would be a blast...from either side. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

My goal isn't to create drama, we can sit here and debate how feasable it is but the bottom line is well... it didn't happen so it really doesn't matter its just for fun.

I agree with Lexx a conflict between these two countries would have been far more probable than the Kaiser returning to power in Germany. The real problem when trying to modeling something somewhat realistic with this is that any war in 1946 would have been mostly props with just an auxillary force of jets. Since this was the massive surplus left over on all sides.

What we really need (though I'll make due):

1. La-9
2. P-51H
3. Black Widow
4. P-47N Razorback
5. F7F
6. F8F
7. F9F
8. Meteor Mk.V and Mk.VII

... and probably some more post war Russian planes on not aware of...

Either way my appeal is for help, ideas, skins, etc. Anything is appreciated!

Amen to the F8F. That thing would own any other prop plane.

He's not talking about Russia, he's talking about the Soviets. It's best not to insult our *real* Russian friends by saying they are low down dirty commie bastards. (IOW - the last war *Russia* fought in was WWI)

Any war against commies is a good war. Doesn't matter who starts it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (BlitzPig_El came up with the PERFECT '46 scenario - just as a side note). I've always enjoyed gunning down commie crates with American planes. Particularly the Jug (which they hated, LOL), and the F6F.

This campaign sounds cool. I'd play it. But just as a side note, the American perspective is that we are blue, the badguys are red.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The same can be said of 1947, 1948, 1949, etc... although with diminishing merit as the years roll. A Ussia vs Russia sim, around the time of the Berlin Airlift, would involve all the Maddox WW2 wonderjets now (Yak-15, MiG-9, F-80 (well kinda, YP-80), with some extras needed like F-82, F-84 and a very nice "fantasy" plane -- the afterburning Jumo Yak-19 which I am bizzarely attracted to.

This basic idea, although strategic in nature (hence my interest in the F-82 which is Core) has been something I've always wanted to see, and I found a vehicle to do it in StrikeFighters semi-open sim, although with much difficulty and often rough approximation, as the SF sim is a purely tactical sim. But then, aren't they all?

Project, purely personal ~> http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3233

Ya, the German paper fiat planes rolling off the Moscow presses are causing "simflation" which is defined as the increase in the supply of wonderjets in WW2 combat flight sims, leading to the loss in value of "real" WW2 wonderjets like Me-262 and Ar-234. Maddox-46 is undergoing hypersimflation in that sense right now, as we poast. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
