I understand that Queen's English isn't native language for everyone but no discussion truly means that.

Now here's the deal - discuss the poll here and try and get this one locked, be so kind http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Thx steve_v, I think this forum really lacks the feature of having a poll without a discussion - too many of them always turn sour with many getting no chance to cast a vote.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

It's a pity you can't select more than one option: I have the add-on on per-order, so obviously I want it; OTOH I will use a no-DVD crack if it's convenient to install and run, since I will by that time have purchased a license to run the game.

(Personally, I am interested in the contents of both the SoM and 46 sections.)

I would still equate this with the first option since you anyway give an impression that you'd buy the game even if no simple and elegant no-cd crack were available, right?

Sure another option would be "I'll only buy the title if there is a simple hack available for it". This would be more in the sense of the third option but not quite the same...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Are you aware that if we can't post in the poll thread, and given it is very unlikely that it will be made a sticky, it will go down in the forum till it sinks in second page and no one will see it? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I didn't vote because none of the choices reflect my thoughts no the whole copy-protection matter.

The presence of copy protection is not a killer issue for me, but it does influence my purchasing to a degree. Basically, if given the choice between two (or more) games, I will purchase the one with no or less restrictive copy protection.

Why?

Well, I don't pirate games, but I do like to make backups. This is especially important to me since I have 3 small children (ages 5-11) that all like to play games on computers but still haven't fully learned to put the CD back in the case when they're done. This January, We had an unfortunate instance where a game my young son loved (Lego Star Wars) was left out and was badly scratched. It would not work anymore. I was forced to spend another $35 to get a new copy of the game. Had I been able to make a copy (and keep the original safely put away), I would have only been out dollar for a blank CD.

Yes, I'm sure somewhere somebody has a way to copy this CD that breaks the protection, but I don't have the time or feel the need to do that sort of thing. <span class="ev_code_yellow">I'd much rather not be treated like a potential criminal every time I make a purchase.</span> If deterring piracy is a concern for a software company, there are other, better ways of doing it than the traditional CD copy protection. Even MS doesn't copy-protect Windows and Office CDs!

There is one game I purchased recently because it had no copy protection: Galactic Civilizations II. That game exceeded all sales expectations for Stardock, in no small part because of the buzz around this "lack".<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Oh, a bump will do just nicely, no won't it?
A discussion instead won't do nicely because it most likely will get it locked just like any other topic bordering the discussion. I think that this way there are already more votes than in a traditional one - particularly on this topic.

What I find an interesting side effect is that there are individualists who just can't stomache an idea of appearing in the stats just as a mere number, just as important as the any other guy.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think the first option reflects your opinion more than the others - given no other option you'll probably still buy a title, right? When it comes down to combat flight sims featuring WW II, there are not that many choices. Unfortunately, I can't chance the poll and options to please everyone, because it will apparently reset it. I just realized "none of the above" option would have been necessary.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Hmm, I don't like the option that says "Buy the game and use a pirated copy".

Why? Because there is no simple rts.dll type of thing for the 1946 addon. To buy the game and use a pirated copy is plain stupid, as you will end up with securom anyway, PLUS a series of different "tools" to run it.

I prefer the legal copy with securom any day. Why would I want to give myself more headaches and worries than I need to? You take large risk with viruses and spyware if you install this type of "tools". It is not worth it, I??d rather put in my DVD.

If you had not purchased another copy, your son might have learned why CDs must be back in the case. In fact, they should have learned that so well as using the PC.

You spoiling your children is not UBI's fault.

But, yes, you're right: copyright laws include the right to make a backup copy. Those laws are being broken by sw companies. And no EULA can have more validity than law.

I'm sure the Nazi's has been thinking of them as well as the Lerche. So it has an equal right of being in the sim. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Had that happen to me a couple of weeks ago.

Was flying a 262 in a late war campaign and had just been in a rather large scrap. I was on the way back to base when I spotted a Lightning on the deck.

I dived on him and was closing in no time; I thought I had a tiny bit of ammo left so I waited till I was real close to make the shots count. As I got in range I clicked but nothing happened, I thought I was going to collide so I hauled back on the stick and heard what sounded like a wing coming off.

I waited for the spinning to start but it never did, I took a look over and noticed something wasn???t right, whilst this was going on the Lightning hit the ground and I awkwardly made my way home with one engine and buggered up my landing.

If I have any trouble with the copy protection scheme, I'll have a solution. That is, if I'm able to get it installed in the first place. I will simply get it installed, then copy the installed files in the IL2 folder onto my other HD with a intsall of Windows on it. Therefore if any nasty program code from the copy protection gets installed on my PC, will not go along to my other HD with Windows on it.
