A friend of mine took these about 13 yrs ago at a lot near the Fox theatre in Atlanta. this zeke had sat there for yrs, become a bit of a landmark, and at the time, the owner wouldnt sell it. I have no idea if it is still there or not. it appears to be an a6m2, but i dunno.

Does any1` know if this thing is still rotting away in that lot, or has intelligence arrived and stashed it somewhere? Its in too crappy an area for me to drive thru.....despite copious amounts of firepower.

PM me with the address or just the general area if you know it and I will go look. I work less than a mile from there, and I lived in Grant Park for 15 years, so "I ain't Scairt". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I would be surprised if it was still there though, as that area has been extensively developed lately.

If you can send me a higher resolution version of the 1st photo, I might be able to figure out where it is from the big black building in the background. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It was over on Peachtree near Crawford Long Hospital, behind an arts/crafts shop.

I think it is gone now.

yup...its been rescued and is not being used any longer as a urinal. (not that it ever was, but it may as well have been).

it was one that was aquired by the RAF apparently and used by the tech section of the AAF for evaluation. too many priceless machines like that rot for someone being idiotic....not like they couldnt make some money on them.

sorry i didnt get back to you BB, but L-fish found some info on it. been safe for a while now. it was an A6M5.

this is the plane when it was captured by the Brits and our tech intelligence center got it.

I wonder if there are other planes like this just laying around. I'm surprised that a zero was just rusting away here in the US. I could imagine somewhere in the Pacific, but I find it rare a foreign plane was here.

It doesnt look like it was totally forgotten before being restored. It looks like theres a security flag next to it.

I probably would have been greedy and taken the cockpit to use for flight simming.

That guy needs to donate all that lot to a museum instead of letting it rot in his back yard.
