View Full Version : Which is the best patch to run under?

05-16-2005, 08:26 PM
I am *NOT* trying to open a can of worms here. But, as a new player to the game I have seen a lot of debate on these boards w.r.t damage/fixes from patches. I would like to know the best overall patch (or none at all!) to run the game.

Keep in mind that historical accuracy is not a concern of mine...a well playing, fun experience is paramount.

All help appreciated.

You will get pros/cons for every patch, so there is no right answer for you.

You need to try them and find what works good for you, but you should probably use 1.2 or 1.3. I use 1.3 and still enjoy the game.

You'll get a lot of people saying 1.2:

1. There's a lot of mods for it (especially campaign type). Maximum compatability with existing mods.

2. The SO voice isn't broken

The reasons to go 1.3 are

1. To be current, in hopes of a fast "1.31" patch to fix SO

2. Enjoy the new fixes and features of the patch

3. Confidence in mods being made/converted for 1.3

1.0? Only if you need the no DVD crack. 1.1? Nope, don't bother.

Definitely NOT trollling http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif although I can understand how it may appear so. Frederf: that was the answer I was looking for. Thanks for the help. I'll go 1.2 for now.

Good choice! I went back to patch 1.2 my self. I didnt like the idea that my watch officer and my sonorman could not talk anymore! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Watch Officer is fine in 1.3.

It seems that the warship AI is much improved in 1.3. I would say that 1.3 is worth it for that reason alone.

Happy hunting?

I pretty much immediately loaded the 1.3 patch and saw the good and the BAD. I did a complete uninstall and then attempted to load patch 1.2. There were issues but I got it to work. However, there's one apparent side effect. The voices are attenuated while in most screens except maybe the map and when surfaced. They're still audible but attenuated.

are u saying that the voices were weaker in 1.2 or 1.3?

I'm wondering, like eltea...which patch..the 1.2 or 1.3 is actually better over all for SH3

Where does one download 1.1 or 1.2 at this point! Unless my browser is broken UBI is only offering 1.3! Is 1.3 all inclusive of the fixes in 1.1 & 1.2?! Thanks in advance

Forget about patch 1.1.

Here's a patch 1.2 mirror (http://www.filefront.com/?filepath=/theofpfaq/sh3/SH3_Patch_12_DVD_US.exe) for the US DVD version, if that's what you have.

Thanks! I have also discovered that you can manually find the file on UBI's server. Just take the name for the 1.3 patch, paste it into the nav bar, change the relevant part to 1.2, and away you go!

It all comes down to one realism setting. If you play with gods-eye view on (I forget what the settings called, but it's the last one on the left hand side) then patch 1.3 is the way to go. If you play with that off then the hydrophone bug is a real game killer and I'd stick with 1.2.

Its crazy don't you think that people have to ask "What patch is better" This again shows that the game and its problems are very prevalent! Very sad.....Heres my suggestion...wait for another patch or patch to 1.3 like I did and then keep coming back here every day in hopes of another patch to patch the problems of the 1.3 patch and what it broke in patch 1.2 and then watch for another patch to fix the slow down issues and system crash issues. Are you confused yet? Maybe by patch 1.9 the game will get closer to a playable, enjoyable game it was meant to be when they stamped all these retail DVDs for sale!

Hoo Ray lets hope! And at that time I will be requesting a new updated DVD! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I honestly don't think the game is all that bad. Heck, I only looked for a patch out of reflex (as I do with every game I buy) not because there were any issues troubling me in particular. The only "problem" I've noticed is that the SO is silent in 1.3. Since I play with the God's-eye view, this isn't a technical issue for me, but I miss the flavor.

Overall, I must say as a more casual sim fan, I am very impressed with this game. It seems to have been able to bridge the gap between the hard-core and the casual player.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm now quite happy with 1.2.
