This is the first installment of U.S. Company Third Wire's (STRIKE FIGHTERS, WINGS OVER VIETNAM, WINGS OVER EUROPE) WWI combat flight sim. For some reason those in the UK get first dibs, lucky sods.

One thing that seems to have been learned by most software houses over the years is that european customers are far less likely to show up at your office with a S&W 50. cal if the goods aint quite up to shape.

Also it is somewhat difficult to smuggle a piece of 2 by 4 with a nail in it onto a trans atlantic flight.

P.s if you check out the anouncement on the simhq forum you will notice that the author is making arangements for U.S and non European customers

Americans have to buy by sending the game to an ex-girlfriend in London who sends it on to the U.S. with a rabid corgi in the box. Blasted EU rules.

First Eagles:

Press Announcement from G2 Games:
First Eagles - Incoming WW1 flight simulation from G2 Games goes gold

G2 Games are today announcing that their new PC flight simulation title First Eagles has gone gold and is ready for release on November 24th. First Eagles is an air-combat game for PC that aims to recreate the romance, adventure, and excitement of engaging in great air battles over the trenches of France during the First World War.

Join the newly formed US Air Service, British Royal Air Force, French Military Aviation, or Imperial German Air Service and engage in the desperate struggles to control the skies over the trenches!

First Eagles is the first game in a series of titles set during the First World War, subsequent titles will add more aircraft, missions and new campaigns from the era of the Great War.

?We?ve not seen a historical flight simulation game like this since Battle of Britain 2.? quotes Jeremy Christie, spokesperson for G2 Games. ?The accuracy of the flight models and attention to detail in the game is what caught our attention in the first place. We are looking forward to making a success of First Eagles when it is launched this month.?

Only 3 flyable aircraft, TK's patented awful ground/terrain meshes, all built on the Strike Fighter engine which is less than kind to prop aircraft, a history of very buggy online play,
and they call the Brits the RAF.

Dear All

Two points - how did this sim creep up on us unannounced? Knights of the Air has been touted for some while and suddenly a completely unheralded WWI sim dives out of the sun.

Secondly: calling the "Brits" the RAF in 1918 is quite correct, the Royal Air Force having come into existence on 1st April 1918. Not that anybody in the Royal Flying Corps actually noticed at the time. The screenshots I have seen look quite promising and I shall give it a whirl come 24th November which I believe is the release date in dear old Blighty, which is where us Brits live.

(1) Yes, its a small dev team (TW < Oleg << Microsoft) and the sim is designed from the start to support open 3rd Party aircraft modding.

(2) Yes, the sim is designed for fully open 3rd Party terrain modelling. As we have covered in the ubizoo threads about Oleg's map making, if given the tools, 3rd Parties generally create higher quality flight sim terrains than the cfs developers, as developers are naturally more focused on "aircraft" polygons.

(3) Yes, but the new engine is supposed to have more Prop friendly features, or so I understand. Although notice that none of the flyable aircraft are rotary engined.

(4) Yes, ThirdWire is a very small developer ie...(TW < Oleg << Microsoft)....and they are too small a team to develop for both. Also, I think TK is not interested in the tiny Online flight sim scene, unlike Oleg/Gennadich and the TargetWare developers.

(5) Yes...
