Although I do believe I have seen this footage before, it doesn't stop one from getting strong emotions.

It would be nice to think the Hippo really cares for this fellow, instead of being triggered by some misplaced instinct.

It may be a case of anthropomorphism, but it is beautiful footage. Especially the attempt at getting the antilope back on its feet is gripping.

Thanks for sharing!

Prolly died cause of that hippo's breath.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

OK, that`s very weird.

It could be some instinct gone wrong in the Hippo. Could be the Hippo wants to eat the deer, then realised it`s a Hippo not a crocodile.

Oh who the hell are we kidding! That Hippo tried to save the deer and give it mouth-to-mouth resuscitation!!!!! It`s a dead Human-spirit reborn!

Bet the crocodile was confused.

There are many documented cases of hippos eating meat. it's more surprising that the hippo didn't eat the antelope.

It looks like it is "mothering" the antelope. Probably got confused and thought it was a baby hippo.

I think Chuck_Older was being sarcastic? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Poor thing. Just goes to show that the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction. Maybe the croc had killed the hippos child so it had a go back when the chance came?

Thanks for the link Sintubin. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Who think's the wolrd is full of evil
Assuming you meant the "world", well, unfortunately you've proved that it is evil. After all -

That settles it. The dog's going...I'm getting a hippo!

Strange relationship between crocks and hippo€s. Mother hippos will toss their new born calfs right in the middle of a swarm of crocks. The crocks will not touch the baby hippo, even as it crawls across their faces and over their backs!...it's true, look it up

Wow strange video. Nature is full of surprises.

For the record, more people die from hippo attacks in Africa than croc attacks.

"Who think's the world is full of evil look at this"

Regarding the post title, what the Croc was doing isn`t evil. It`s just getting food. So what the Hippo`s doing isn`t `good` either, it`s weirdly interfering.

It`s only to our human minds that it appears to be a `good` act, cos we tend to `humanise` everything we see. While humanising the animal kingdom is nice, it often does more harm to the animal kingdom than good.

ie: "Ohh, isn`t that baby fur seal cute, we must save it... Don`t worry about that extremely rare snake (cos they`re evil), chop it`s head off!"
