I am working on makeing a DVD for a friend of mine that flew for the US military in the mid to late 1950's

Does anyone have a link with some of those songs on the web. I need them for background music.

I have tons of stuff from the 70's till recent and have collected quite a bit from the 40's but nothing from the 50's and very little from the 60's

Any help is appreciated.

If nothing more than the name of the song and artist.

Time Life. Many, many 50s CD box sets to choose from. As for free stuff, I doubt you'll have much luck finding it.

Try http://www.bearshare.com. You can search and download MP3 files. Then using your standard CD burning program you can convert them to CDA files which just about any CD player will play.

You could also try http://www.slsknet.org/

It's a hassle free, spyware free file sharing site.

As for 50s music anything by Duane Eddy makes for an atmospheric soundtrack, he only wrote guitar instrumentals which are unmistakably 1950s.

Oh man, get the Shirelle's Soldier Boy even if you must buy the Greatest Hits CD. It may be about 1960~ish though. When I was a kid, I was listening to the Oldies station late one night and apparently some Army or Air Force guys had called up from an Alaskan missile site (or something, somewhere lol) and they requested the Soldier Boy. Sweet song. This was some kind of national station I guess .. not sure I don't remember, but that's the story they told about who requested it. I always remembered that. Almost all the songs are fantastic, my Fave is that little one called Tonight's The Night. Very bouncy, that one.
