F4U-4B: This airplane was equipped with four 20-mm cannons instead of 50-caliber machine guns (used in the early F4U-4 production) and eight 5-inch rockets under wings.

If you want a cannon armed Corsair, the only one that saw action in the Pacific was the F4U-1C, basically a cannon armed F4U-1A.

The above posted photo was a Vought experimental XF4U-1C, converted from F4U-1A bu-no.50277, note the total lack of armor plating at the rear of the canopy. The F4U-1C was not so much a cannon armed -1A as it was a cannon armed -1D. The -1C's were produced at intervals between production runs of -1D's. The F4U-1C saw its first combat over Okinawa, so it entered service very late in the war.

You know, petitions really DO make it easier to add stuff to the game... Every "signature" automagically adds another hour to the day of every person working on the project.

Keep posting guys!

I thought I saw somewhere that we were getting the F4U-1C...

It would be nice to have the the F4U-4B and I sorely miss having allied aircraft with uber weapons... ie Typhoon, Tempest, Skeeter and Beaufighter, Mustang 1A, spit mk 22...but I'm not holding my breath for it...I am, however, holding my breath for the good ole F4U-4 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/heart.gif and it is gonna get rough between now and oct/nov release

Thanks fellas,

Good to know Kimura, not sure what the comment about people and one hour is, and yes Badsight I thought we would have seen the 335 by now. That would be a real enticer for me to fly blue. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Cooler than a Corsair, probably no. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Shame we have a nonexistant like the 109z and no 335. Thanks for posting this pic.

Perhaps we should JUST have Corsairs in this game? Like 12-20 variants, everyone of them more powerfull and rare. It seems that is what most people want....

I just wonder... did the war really happen before 1944?

Salute

Forget the Cannon armed F4U-4b, just give us the F4U-4A, with six .50's, that is fine.

The A model SHOULD be included. It saw more than 4 months of combat and more of them were in combat than Ki-84c's.

Yep, I would be happy to see the F4U-1A and -1D, these were produced in the greatest numbers and the -1A saw combat almost to the end of the war, the -1D first saw combat in the summer of 1944, so it saw over a year of combat. The -4 would be nice at the end, but if it is not there, I still won't cry and whine.

What I really want is a nice sim, good campaign, and free of bugs!

Corsairs?
Doubtless a key ingredient to the ultimate victory in the PTO for the Navy and Marine Corps fighter pilots. A fantastic plane?
Sure - many Marines owed their lives to its ground support role.
But the real hero of the PTO ? IMHO it was the tubby little Wildcat. Intially outclassed and out-manuevered by the IJN and IJA, it held on by it's teeth (with the help of some great and innovative pilots), until the US could gear-up and produce superior aircraft in overwhelming numbers.
The Wildcat and the Corsair share a similar reputation as the Hurricane and Spitfire.

Spreckels my friend, you have good taste in aircraft. To me the tubby little Wildcat embodies the conflict in the Pacific. Other guys can have the Corsair, maybe even the Uberplane Bearcat, but just give me that little "Aluminum Beer Keg with Wings" and I would be a pretty happy guy. Years ago as a little lad in Texas our neighbor had a Wildcat that he flew for the Confederate Air Force. He used to crank the thing up and fly for airshows. Back then there was no really organized airshow circuit like they have now. That little Wildcat could take off in the length of a Carrier from a dirt runway. The old Man took me up one time when I was probably all of five years old... and yes he left the canopy open during the all of ten minutes of flight. The Wildcat to me will forever symbolize the Pacific, just as the Spit and 17 will always represent the Euro theater. All the best, LongHorn

Thanks Texas - To me the real heroes of World War Two were the men and their machines that overcame severe adversity, held on when hope was fleeting and by sheer tenacity, independence, ingenuity and courage accomplished their mission.
But it also applies to the Russian foot soldier holding the line at Moscow, the Free French patriot who risked it all to slow the Reich war machine, the Tommie soldier holding on in the jungles of Burma and the American soldier facing the enemy bunkers on the Normandy Beach and the hundreds of thousands of heroes (all nations) who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can do what we are doing right now (freely expressing ideas and information.)
Yeah - Hopefully I will be flying the ol' Wildcat in PF and loving every minute of it.

the M2 fifty cal has never been more deadly than it is now

The F4U-1C did see a few kills during the Okinawa campaign (with at least one ace in a day), but it was not a substantial player by any means. There were only a total of 200 of them produced. Also, their Hispano 20mm Cannons were prone to freezing up above twelve-thousand feet.

It would be great to be able to experience a simulation of the F4U-1C, but having skies full of them is an unrealistic proposition.

Oh yeah, and having them full of KI-84C's, LA-7's, 190D's and Ta-152 isn't? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I usally don't comment on this type of thread, however if we eventually get the treat of the advanced, but limited production planes that Japan put out late in the war, we should get the F4U-4, the plane that was good enough to kill the F2G project!

Simulations are great to replay history, but also to test run what might have been.

Regards to all!

An interesting thing has happened with Forgotten Battles. What has been "forgotten" are the Russian planes. All the luft seem to be retreating to servers such as Warclouds where they don't have to face them.

Servers like F16 and GreaterGreen that feature rotating planesets are fun, but you get a map with pre-1944 planes and the server clears outlike rats off a sinking ship. On the other hand, Warclouds with it's late war ubers will stay full all night.

How does this relate to Pacific Fighters? I can see a scenario where the Ki84 and Ki100's are kicking the snot out of the US planes so bad, you will struggle to keep targest in the the late war servers for the blues to shoot up.

If the map rotates to Hellcats vs Zeros, will the blues hang around? Or do we just include the rare late-war US stuff and both teams can explode each other all night.
