View Full Version : Switch from 7600gt to 9800 GT for my system (Il-2 1946 one of the few games I play)--

Hi
Here are my specs.

Athlon 64 3200+
1GB Ram (2 512K sticks)
Audigy 2 sound card
EVGA 7600GT video card. 256mb
thermaltake 430w psu

Want to upgrade, but don't feel like whole motherboard/cpu/memory change so ...

I'm going to change from 2 512K sticks to 2 1GB sticks (2gb total)
PNY "energy efficient" 9800GT 512mb.

Is the 9800GT overkill for my system? thanks

Nah, that'll give you a nice bump. You're going to want to upgrade that PSU though. Especially with the extra Gig of RAM.

RAM uses very little power. The power supply should be fine. Thermaltake have a power supply calculator if you want to check your exact configuration:
