I have always wondered what this manouvre is, I have probably done it without realising what it was, but could someone explain or give me a link to some explanations of manouvres and why the are so good/when to use them?

Thanks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This site has brief descriptions of various maneuvers:

you do it all the time without realising. You and the enemy airplane are flying side by side. Both turn towards each other, trying to point the guns, pass each other, than turn towards each other again... and so on, until one gets behind the other.
theres also vertical scizzors - same but up and down.

Scissors are one of best defence maneouvre of a fast rolling planes, when chased by equally fast and better turning, but worse rolling opponent , so very good to use in Fw or mustang against fighters like spit-nonCW, yak, la. In 4.02 Fws incredible roll rate at high speeds make it uber in scissors. Not many online pilots realised it yet.

Assuming you are flying Fw with a yak or spit on a tail: Firstly: get FAST (in a dive for example). When fast, you roll and turn better than him. Then roll so much, that you are rolled 180 degrees opposite than your opponent and pull back on the stick to turn away - but don't turn to much, just some 45 or 60 degrees, not to bleed to much speed. He will have to execute half roll and then begin to turn. In the mean time you already roll back and turn into him again. Repeat this a couple of times and don't loose your speed too much, and you will do fine.

Just check the other post on roll aretes 4.02 and you will see roll rate did not changed in 4.02 for FW190.

Scissors:

Handy tool for cutting your paper airplane opponent to ribbons. Not to be mistaken with machineguns or cannons.

Scissors is one of my favourite defensive maneuvers, especially vertical scissors. I just love to see my opponent overshoot while trying to roll back onto me, then i blow him away with my 20mm's up his ****! Mwahahahahaha http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif
