Any guesses? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just perusing some "Work In Progress" shots over at the IL2 section of the "aviaforum" site and came across these items of interest.

These appear to be design studies by a Russian modeller... he is doing the work for himself but did express interest in potential PF inclusion. From what I can tell SaQSoN indicated that, unfortunately, his work is too late.

Regards, Goshikisen.

Didn't mean to cause any distress... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Just wanted to draw the community's attention to some interesting models. Arizona has to be the most glaring PF object omission... maybe one of the future 3rd party add-ons could employ this gent's models.

USS California would make an interesting addition because she had a second life after her sinking at Pearl.

From the US Navy's Historical Center Website:

Over two and a half years after she was sunk, California reentered combat, providing heavy gunfire support for the invasions of Saipan, Guam and Tinian during June and July 1944. In October and November, she took part in the Leyte Campaign, including the 25 October 1944 Battle of Surigao Strait, history's last fight between opposing battleships. In January 1945, California participated in the Lingayen Gulf invasion. Damaged by a "Kamikaze" suicide plane on 6 January, she remained in action for more than two weeks before steaming to the U.S. for repairs and an overhaul.

California returned to the Western Pacific in June 1945, in time to take part in the final stages of the Okinawa campaign. She covered occupation activities in the wake of Japan's surrender, then sailed for the Atlantic by way of the Indian Ocean and the Cape of Good Hope. After her arrival at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in December 1945, the battleship was generally inactive until her formal decommissioning in February 1947.

A modeller could potentially make 2 different superstructures for 1 model with the California and have a useful ship for Pearl and Late War scenarios.

Her profile changed considerably after her modernisation.

Just a thought.

California before and after the post-Pearl refit had more then just different superstructure.
So, basically, it would be 2 completely different ship models, with different hulls and superstructures. The only things left would be it's main turretts. Same goes to Pennsilvania and Nevada.
Besides, modelling the superstructures takes most of the time, comparing to the hull building.
As for this particular models, they hardly will get into the game, as they never were completed or supplied to 1C or Luthier.
