View Full Version : Carrier landings Wildcat V Zero

I've been practising carrier landings with the Wildcat and I either eat the rear of the boat or float over the wires. Well, I've only had the game a few days.
Switched to a mission in the Zero and decided to see if I can land on the carrier (was expecting failure).
Was quite surprised to land first time with this bird although missed the wire. Second attempt missed the wire but landed with plenty of space anyway.
Anyone else find the Zero easy to land.

Also. I'm either too low or too high on approach with the Wildcat. Any suggestions.

No, just the opposite actually. Just could not catch the wire in the Zero, took about 7-8 attempts. Yet in the Wildcat I landed and hooked first time! It seems to have a better approach angle at low speed.

Always found that the Wildcat was the easy one to put on the deck. The Zero is hard to actually get down, I find, since it really wants to "float" over the deck. Just can't get the **** thing to stop flying! On the other hand, that always makes it really easy to go around for a second attempt if you botch it.

I find the Corsair is the hardest to put down, especially on a Illustrious class carrier. **** that huge nose. The Lexington seems to be by far the easiest carrier to land on, since it has arrester wires along the entire length of the deck.

I think hook placement might have something to do with it.
I'm going of memory (which isnt good so shoot me if i'm wrong http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )
But doesnt the Zero has one of those Arrestor hooks that drops down in front of the Tail Wheel? Where as the Wildcat's hook is one that drops down from the tail?

You are right, Hank http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, I can land Wildcat without any problems, but Zero was hard for me on my first attempts.

Sorry for my bad language...

Well first time i tried to land the Wildcat i did a pretty good approach. But then i noticed i was too high so i dove down on final approach before quickly pulling up again. Luckily my arrestor hook caught the wire and my plane was qiute literally plucked out of the sky. The plane smacked down on the deck, but luckily wasnt damaged-phew http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
I guess the only advice i can give is stay slow and low. Open the canopy, might slow you down a bit. And hope that luck is on your side!

I found the wildcat easier, The first time flying the zero i missed the wire but yanked the stick up and actually caught the last wire. I now bring it in slow and drop down on top of the wires.
