and it aint cuz I cant figure out "angle off the bow"...its cuz the damn Romanians or whomever wrote a half done program and left the "players" without tech support! Carp, as far as I can remember...thats the way its always been....DOS based, open coded...no stupid conversations about mods since source was abandonded anyway....seems to me they almost got it right with SHIII, but instead took a SHIIIIT

I remember writing a bit o this code in the '70s...especially what is called the "engine"...well I hoped it would get better since it is open source and nobody can copywrite it....but all they done here was slap a few slobs o paint and call it their own and take the cash. Uall cant call it your own unless you wanna own it. Blah Blah Blah....romanian "software engineers"...blah blah blah...dont get me wrong I love the new paint...but you aint fixed the engine.

'SHIIIIT' = disagreable but imaginatively put.

My first sub game was text based and run on a TRS-80...Next up was Wolf Pack on a 386 machine, then I moved on to Silent Hunter, then to II and now III, (yes the PC's all improved over time as well).

I am always amazed at how well everything works looks and plays, from that first game to now. There may be bugs and not everything may be perfect but they are doing a far better job than I could ever do and I have a serious amount of fun playing what they have supplied to me.

Everytime I get a new sub game I wonder, "How could it possibly get better then this?" Since they are working on IV I guess they have some ideas on the matter...wow, neat! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

(I wonder if shameless brown nosing will get me on as a Beta tester?)

I think more highly of this game then "SHIIIT", but I have noticed that it seems a bit, unfinished. The Developers said that the XXI would have creep motors and you can use the nibelweresomething sonar. I see them in the damage screen but you cant use them. Also has anyone seen the ship horn sounds in the sound folder of the game. I never heard them whilst playing. It's small things that they seem to have left out occaiosionaly.

sure, sh3 was left with many bugs and half finished promises.. but the mods community have kept it alive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
in today's world of FPS and arcade action games, i'm grateful for what we have. could've been a lot worse (like being still stuck with AOD) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif not that it was a bad sim, but sub simming seems to take long strides unwavering commitment. thats what submarining is all about. lets not give up on the hope that it will never die.

Well when PT Boats: Knights of the Sea come out I could just imagine the insults being thrown at how the detail in SH3 could have been better. You got detailed sea floors, Subs/Destroyers/PTs, far detailed land, hidden docks here and there, walking crew on deck. Also at how Subs and ships split and sink. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I can imagine how people would compare that game to SH3 when it comes out and seen harsh comments about SH3. SH3 is great its just if you overplay it of course its going to suck since you need a break http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif Well for those that do then damn I donno....

There's omly one other game out there that has patrol boats - WWIIonline (Battleground Europe) has British fairmiles (serving in the German Navy, as well, which is a bit 'unhistorical') - and you don't even need rank to get one of those ingame (I still detest the rank/scoring system).
