Ok, just had a weirdest thing happen. Sneaked into Dover in a IID, March 1940 or 1941, can't remember. Found a bunch of things to sink. Sailed in underwater, at 32TC. All of a sudden, got damage to the forward torpedo room, quarters and control room. WTF? Peeked out with external cam, and saw a sub net. BEHIND the boat!!

After sinking what had to be sunk, decided to sneak out... Turns out, the only way to get out was on the surface (suicide) or through a very narrow gap between the pier and the net. It looked something like

nnnnnnnnnnnnnn

________ppppppppppppppppp

Where n is net, p is pier and _ is empty space, the forum wont let me do multiple spaces... We made it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Here is a very bad photo, it was pretty much all dark and blending, but I guess you can see the pier and net behind.

So the question is, is it a glitch or that net saw actually works?

(bump)

I was going to add, but forgot... Anyone who drives a IID in GWX-2, have you ever gone through a net like that? KH, perhaps?

I might try it again, if I can sail out of Calais in one piece, since Dover is very close.

Interesting, Foehammer!

Historically, they were removed after the French ports in Biscay were captured as they were deemed surplus to requirement.

Let us know how you get on! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

When I encounter a sub net I fire Rottweiler from one of the bow tubes and he rips them apart with his teeth... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Seriously, I don't go in for port raiding that much and only ever encountered one at Southend which 'ate' my last torpedo, which was bound for an intimate union with a large troopship.http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Ahh, we all know that feeling. I once spent a while sneaking into Scapa, found some battleship or cruiser (can't remember its been a while. Fired a spread of 3, only to have them hit the sub net. Btw, the bloody net didn't even move, nor scratch. Are they made of collapsium, or something?? In which case my bow net saw must be made of something harder, even though it's not theoretically possible http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Speaking of nets, I found intrepid reporter R.J. Ambo's first ever printed work - covering a shock port raid on Gibraltar. This must be about 2 years old at least! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I don't think that the net saw actually works. My best guess is that at 32TC you were fortunate enough to have passed through the gap between the net and the dock ... the damage report being due to either contact with the dock or the harbour bottom.
In my experience, any damage occurring at any TC above normal speed will be more serious than if your strike the object in real time .... I never go through any channel above 8 TC, and only enter harbours (including German) in real time.

Sorry, that screen was taken while leaving the harbor. I hit the net on the way in. Looked with external cam, and it was right behind the stern, perpendicular to the boat http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Just now visited that harbor again in the middle of a Luftwaffe raid. Didn't try to cut the net, but used that small gap instead on the way in and out http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

However, the original bump, grind and clearing of the net still remains a mystery to me...

Got any screenshots of that Foe? I've never been lucky enough to see the Luftwaffe attack anything (on land or sea) in SH3!

Uh, I did take some, but it was in the middle of the night, and all you could see were searchlingts. My game lags so badly during these things in external view, that I couldn't catch good shots... So I deleted them all..

I once had two JU88 attack my target (a C2) south of Ireland (way back in SH3 1.4). They set it aflame, but failed to sink her, and I administered two coup-de-grace with my last two torpedoes for the credit (take that, Hermann!).
Unfortunately, no photos.
