View Full Version : New gfx and sound bring my system to the knees ;)

HI Devs!

Thank you for the great new stuff.

But I nave a problem with my system after installing 46.

You apparently changed sound (mg_snd.dll, mg_snd_sse.dll) and graphics (il2_core.dll) with the result of echoing sounds when I use hardware extension and agreat loss of performance when I use water=1. So I have to use water=0.

I wish I could rollback to the old 4.05 il2_core.dll, but it does nor work.

My System

SB2 Audigy ZS
Ati x800xl
amd 3500+

Before 46 I was very satisfied with my systems performance running il2, now I am not.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hope you will deliver an alternative il2_core.dll, mg_snd.dll, mg_snd_sse.dll with the patch.

Regards El_Marta

So your saying the graphics and sound have improved to a higher quality? Sweet if this is true.

You could back up the sound and core dlls for 4.07 and try puting the dlls from 4.04 in there. Usually only the files.SFS needs to be changed to switched versions so it should work. Perhaps.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

At least it seems they are supposed to be improved.

But im my case it has become worse. Some people on the german boards report weird gfx bugs. I do not experience these, but the loss of FPS in water=1.

What annoys me are the echoing sounds when I use hardware extensions in the sound menu.

When I switch back to 4.05 everything works fine.

Also have a look at the other FPS thread.

You have to change

If you do not change the sound dlls, 4.05 is mute.

If you do not changte the core.dll and the exe, the game will not start.

is this change you speak of not going to affect your compatibility online? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
could we get dev input on this?

this is reason why I do it. I switch between 4.07 and 4.05 by changing these files.

But you cannot alter 4.07´s gfx by exchanging the il2_core.dll or the sound by changing the snd.dlls.

In january the devs offered different core dlls when they were experimenting with water display.
You could change the gfx by exchanging il2_core.dll with 4.04 and 4.05, but this is not possible anymore.

this is exactly the same thing for me ! MaJowi, i have almost the same config as you and i met this sound pb and loss of perf...dont know what to do the loss is too important for my config...

Wasn't the code for 4.07 recompiled? That would probably explain why changing files between 4.05 and 4.07 doesn't work. I am interested in this matter. haven't received my copy, yet, so i cannot say how it will be on my system.

Yes I understand that you cannot change the files within one version. I can switch between 4.05 and 4.07 without any problems. But 4.07 comes along with a new exe and new sound and gfx implementations which result in an loss of ingame runtime performance for me.

As an old il2 user I was willing to pay for the 1946 all complete dvd version, but I am not willing to spend money for high performing hardware (which will be obsolete when BOB comes out) in order to compensate for performance losses which might be caused by some copyprotection overhead or optimizations of the game code which were not requested or necessary for my hardware.

@ galoub

try Soundblaster Live settings in the Setuop program. Hardware extensions work for me now. Sound is differs from the accustomed sound, but I think that is how it is supposed to be.

Just chose the ati 800 series settings in the setup programm and altered the suggested water=1 to water=1 and replayed intro2 in 1946.

My system froze in the middle of the track.

No problem with water=0. Before 46 it also worked with water=1.

Improved graphics it says. And debated, not for everyone on maximum settings.

Ummmm. Wouldn't improved graphics kind of imply that the sliders at max are higher than
before? Maybe?

And if so then what happens when you lower the sliders till it looks as good as before?
Still too slow to live with?
You poor kids, and only ten shopping days left till....

Here's what I got when I did a bit of testing: http://www.student.oulu.fi/~ailomaki/il2/illutestit.jpg (http://www.student.oulu.fi/%7Eailomaki/il2/illutestit.jpg)

This is running on maximum detail and high resolution and several programs in the background. Funny, even the UI of the 4.07 was running a bit slower than 4.05 (600+FPS vs. 800+FPS).

Nice graph.

As one can see especially in the right part of the graph 4.05 manages too stay above the 29 /30 FPS mark, where 4.07 hits the lower twenties.

Just taking a stab at it without any real info but I run an ATI X800XL and I had to use the new an improved version of those graphics dlls to get the newer water to work properly. Also I couldn't use the first one in the package I had to use the second one.

I'm running older Cats as well. 5.11s which work great without the headache of CCC.

With 4.05 I use the il2_core.dll with the date 20th February 2006 17:42. If you copy it in 4.07 the game will not start.
