Hi all.

I am new to IL2. I just wondered whether any of you guys out there had any flying tips for me. I like flying the P51 in the last patch and have just started playing online.

thanks for any good advice.

Ill try and explain the plane.

Its a fast plane with a laminar flow wing design. She holds Energy pretty good, when not making any hard manuvers.

Desent turner, but not designed to turn fight. Any good BF109 pilot will most of the time win in a slow turn fight against you IF they have 50% or less fuel.

How should it be flown? Should be flown fast not slow. Generly you want to have an altitude advantage before you engage an enemy aircraft.

Youl need to practice energy fighting. This also means being able to hit your target at 700kmh TAS +. Practicing your deflection shots are a must.

Some times youl have to decide wethere or not you want to trade your Energy to pull enough lead on a target for a shot. Making the wrong choise can be fatal. If you trade Energy for a shot while you target is turning and miss. Then you might be in trouble, you cant zoom away. Also the P-51 dose not exlerate or climb as well as te KI-84 or BF109.

You can out urn the BF109 at high speeds though, except for the G2 and sometimes G6/AS.

Lurning the best way to manage you energy is also improtant. If done wrong it can be fatal. When manuvering, keep a ver very close i on your plane. Is it shaking even a little bit? If so you are losing lots of energy all for nothing. Youl need to lurn how to be gentle with the controls.

Have you ever tride the P-47 or FW190? If not i would recomend trying to master these planes also. They are the true Energy fighters, once you can get kills in these planes the P-51 will be very easy to fly... im not kidding.

A few very general tips is

1 climb to altitude over Ur own base before starting the enemysearh.

2 Get used to a good Look around routine.
= make wide turns to check 6 and surroundings and do it often.
the wide turns dont bleed much speed and also hinders u from flying straight and level. this also makes u a bit more difficult target for ZnB ac.

3. Try to stay near friendlies or ask if u can tag along with someone.
If I fly alone I usually try to stay high above friendlies and aid them if attacked , and this often happens. To fly alone is ok but usually u are an easy target, especially for BnZ'ers.

4 dont go deep into enemyland to get a kill and always be aware of the closest bases to land on.

5 Dont trail after 2 or more friendlies chasing a bandit, try instead to go above and or attack from a different angle. Trailing only leads to problems like accidentaly colliding or hitting a fellow when U fire, or U get bounced by an enemy.

6 Make recordings of the session so u can review it later and get the whole picture.
This is very hard to do from cockpit and that often leads to missunderstandings or disagreements about how something happened.

7 Try to enjoy the Noobhood U'll be an ace soon enough. and it is only for fun.
To be competitive is ok but dont overdo it.

8 Try to always to be polite with ur fellow pilots and stand above whiners. Argumenting in an ongoing game often leads to less enjoyment for all on the server. If u get anoyed try swearing at your screen instead. ( works for me).

9 give Urself 20sec to read the briefing and server rules ( often a good idea).

cheers and welcome aboard
