Hardball, I put a nice mirror up for you at the SimHQ thread.

Might I suggest moving this to the General Discussion forum? I think it will get more traffic there.

Well done sir, TY!

Enjoy

Thanks for that great tool and all the work you must have put in it, Hardball http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

If I may make a suggestion, the text in your linked post on SimHQ mentions

Note on installation: The packaged installer doesn€t run successfully for some users. It is recommended that any users having problems should refer to €œFor any other install problems, try this€ towards the bottom of this document. That technique seems pretty bullet-proof.
But it stops there (in the post). Then, the "Readme for HardBall 4_04.rtf", where this is further explained, is buried within the *.cab file which is buried within the *.zip file, so it takes a mild head-scratching to figure it out http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Nothing really stopping the average user, I guess, but my suggestion would be to put the Readme file at the *.zip level, rather than in the *.cab. I'm sure you'll see what I mean, even if this may sound confusing at first sight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

An additional observation here, this is just my preference: I tend to steer clear, as much as I can, of 'Setup' routines that may try to add or replace system files, although I understand the good reasons of simplicity that the developers are taking into account. For this reason, instead of actually following the Readme instructions for manual install

For any other install problems, try this:
Extract the hardball CAB file to a folder and run the executable from there. Note that you should do this after running 'setup.exe', which will have copied the other necessary files to your system.
I first tried my best "user-simplicity option", which is just extracting the whole lot to my selected folder, including the system libraries, and run it from there (skipping the 'Setup' step). It actually works well for me (although I'm aware that the combination with IL2-Stab might be affected by this (?))

And a final question, the screenshot you have posted here shows "HardBall's Aircraft Viewer 4.03" (it shows that way for me too when I run it); while the name of the package and of several files, including the main application executable show like "HardBall's_Aircraft_Viewer_4_04.exe". Just wanted to let you know and check, is this correct?

Again, thanks for this and the other, previous versions I have enjoyed from your kindness and dedication http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Cheers,
S.

It's a standalone program and doesn't depend on versions of game m8 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

It lets u put up two planes ,side by side, to easier compare specs.
Very handy for quick reference while playing.

thanks a lot for your effort Mr Hardball

Thanks Gozr, I am checking our FTP now. I cant imagine we used up our 20gb bandwidth already with a 10mb file! But who knows, maybe we did.

I think TheGozr is talking about the fact that 4.03 appears in the top bar of the window, however 4.04 does appear in the "About" tab.
Regardless, thanks for a great program and your efforts to keep it updated Flt Hardball http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

as a user of your software, i thank you Hardball. But i must ask, where did you get your data for the specs? some seem off.

TheGozr
02-28-2006, 05:10 PM
yes, off from the ingame or real data? for what i see is that some are off from the real Data but i don't know about the in sim data.

Hi,

The data is in-game wherever possible. It's not always perfect, but it should be close enough. This is as good as you're going to get without exhaustive manual testing. If you would like to manually test any of the aircraft in-game and send me the results I'd be happy to look at them.

Sorry, I should have changed the name of the main screen to 4.04 but I overlooked it. I'll post a fix for that and a couple of other small things shortly. Just to clarify, the version name on the main screen has no physical relation to the data - it's just for reference purposes.

DaimonSyrius: Good point. I usually put the ReadMe in the .zip file, but overlooked it this time. I was trying to meet a deadline for my program to be included in the next issue of PC Pilot magazine. I'll re-package it and let everyone know the new link shortly.

I don't know what a ND's CRG is, but it smells like team spirit!

OK, I updated my program to correct the issues brought up by community members. Check it out at the link mentioned in my first post. Thanks to those who provided me with feedback.
