View Full Version : Non PTO in game Campaigns

To All,

I started enjoying this series shortly after IL-2 Pacific Fighters was released.

Although there are many great campaigns to fly at www.mission4today.com, (http://www.mission4today.com,) I have been trying many of the ones that are included in game as they are dynamic (is that the correct expression)?

At any rate, it seems to me that most of the campaigns are based in the Pacific (especially USA & GB).

I can only guess that at one point, pre Pacific Fighters, the in game campaigns might have been based in Europe?

If so, how would I find them?

I hopes this makes sense.

Thank you for your responses.

Hello, you do have Il-2 1946 dont you? If not then you need to buy it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You can get IL-2:1946 for $10 or less.

Is your copy of PF the stand alone version or have you merged it with an earlier version of IL2?

If it's merged you should have access to the LW and VVS campaigns at the very least.

That is until you pick up IL2: 1946 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

I do indeed have a copy of 1946, but still the US and GB Campaigns are based in the Pacific.

I did start (only 1 mission) a German 109 Campaign, but it is based in the USSR.

Are there any chances of finding battles based in Western Europe that are in game campaigns?

There are a few DGEN campaigns out there; looks to be about 10 at M4T??

If you like dynamic campaigns rather than static ones what you really want to do is get Lowengrin's Dynamic Campaign Generator (http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php). It's a 3rd party addon that has many more configurable options (and some would argue, better mission generation) than the built-in DGEN. You can play pretty much any kind of campaign you want with DCG.

What are the key differences between static and dynamic campaigns? I play mainly online but like to dabble offline occasionally.

Static campaigns: The missions will always be the same (except for branches) regardless of your performance in previous mission(s). Branching allowed mission designers to have two alternate mission files as the next mission with the choice of mission based on only success or failure in the current mission.
Dynamic: The environment in the next mission is affected by your actions in this one. e.g. you taking advantage of an oppurtunity to straffe aircraft on the ground during the current mission may result in fewer enemy fighters interfering with your mission in the next flight to the same area
or destroying AA sites might result in no AA in that area for the next 2 or 3 missions.
or destroyed buildings may appear destroyed the next few times you fly over the area.

Your actions will not change the outcome of the war as a whole.

I once tried flying a dynamic campaign on the eastern front with invulnerability turned on to see how many kills were possible in an entire campaign. It got pretty boring because my kill rate quickly outstripped the re-supply rate and after only a few missions there were never more than 3 or 4 enemy aircraft to shoot at.

Thank you for the recommendation jarink & M_Gunz. I will check them out.

Sorry to be a pest, but going back to my original line of questioning, unsure how to best phrase it, but is there any way of determining whether this game, at one point, pre-Pacific Fighters, had USAAF / RAF campaigns based in Europe?

If so, how can I find them?

To the best of my recollection, which is pretty feeble, there were no western Europe dynamic campaigns. Mission for today has a few, but use existing maps. Battle Over Europe was released before AEP, which may have what you're looking for.

Just Flight - Battle Over Europe
Expansion Add-on for IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles

That was a very long time ago.

Before Pacific Fighters was the Aces Expansion Pack that was the first time IL-2 got P-51's. But was I using Lowengrin's DCG then? I forget.

Thank you all. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I thought maybe there might have been, but I guess there weren't.
