Has anyone changed the .cfg file to play all crew voices in german?

MyDocuments/SH3/Data/CFG/main.cfg
Setting voice language to 1 instead of 0 makes it look like you're watching a movie with english subtitles...I imagine it's only a matter of time before I recognize the phrases and don't have to read the english printout.

Pretty cool I think.

I've tried but the voices really annoyted me. Somehow they don't sound... too genuine!

Cripes...I didn't see it in there. Better get my eyes checked...I was looked in audio settings when it was right out there on the main options page.

The german voices are a nice touch though.

Yeah, even though those are the voices of native German speakers, they sound very "staged" for lack of a better term. Stressing of certain syllables always seems to be a little off...

Lock On:Modern Aircombat allowed people to switch the hud-labels between the original russian and english versions without forcing them to play the entire game in russian.

I'd really would have liked to see something similar for SH3.
In the mean time I stick with the English text / German Voices feature.

Is it possible to edit the sound file individually... one of the ones i really wanna change right off the bat is the file when a ship is sunk/destroyed the crew yell "yeah"... i'd rather here a confirmation like "ship destroyed sir" or similiar....

Well it is funny to me that in English when I sink a ship they yeah YEAH! It sounds like my crew just emptied a beer keg in a party after their favorite football team won. Doesn't sound like highly disciplined German soldiers to me.

Whatever happened to the good old standby of using plain English with a German accent?

That's a myth anyway. I suggest watching "Das Boot" and you'll a get more realistic impression of how German submarine sailors were like. There is only one disciplined guy aboard and the rest of the crew looks down on him... and rightly so. He's a *****. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh... and fake accents are a bad idea. They always sound terrible/cartoonish because dialogue people tend to use clichés instead of the real deal in such cases.

Yup german voices and english text. Makes it feel a little more real.

Didn't someone post something about a German Mod that improved the verbage.

The Ubi search doesn't work real good by the way.

German speaking crew with English text is my preference also.

yep - me too - I wanted to go with German voices and German text, but I got my first hard crash/lockup as soon as I made that change to Germa text, so I went back to English text as soon as I rebooted

If I ever meet some German speakers, it should be funny trying to 'impress' them with lines I remember from the game.

I go with the german audio and english text. It's the only way to play! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

My crew has never yelled "yeah!" or anything when I sink a ship...what am I missing? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

German voices and English text here too. What I really think we need is a little German cursing for our misses or dire situations.

In "Das Boot" facts and fiction are intermixed for effect. Some scenes really were based on actual incidents, but were dramatized and exaggerated. It's a brilliant movie, but it's not without flaws. Former U-Boot crews critisized Lothar Günther Buchheim for the impressions he gave in his books about U-Boot warfare. 2 of them, Karl Friedrich Merten ( http://www.uboat.net/men/merten.htm ) and Kurt Baberg even wrote a Book entitled "Wir U-Boot Fahrer sagen NEIN! So war das nicht!" (We U-Boot sailors say No! it wasnt anything like this"). They deprecatingly refer to Buchheim as "Badegast" (bather) in allusion to Buchheim's job as war correspondent, and that he not really belonged to the crew.

btw.

I read at subsim that M.e.a.t.w.a.t.e.r is on the audio part, re-recording the voices altogether. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
Should be great.

Lol! Why does the forum software censor M.E.A.T.W.A.T.E.R ? Oh well...
