Not sure if this has already been posted, but there are some new screenshots over at Simhq scattered throughout this thread (i.e., go beyond page 1).

If I had my way I would make a multiplayer for it that wouldn't allow you to unplug your computer till you died a grusome and downright awful death.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

If that turns out to be accurate reporting, I've lost a lot of interest. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

08-21-2008, 05:42 AM
As you say, *if* it's accurate reporting. If it's true, it could be a way to generate enough revenue to finish the game. If it's a choice between the business model suggested and the game not being released at all, I would rather the game gets released.

08-21-2008, 06:37 AM
I would rather they release it,but if the above is true, they will shoot themselves in the foot.2 flyables with the game, and a locked mission editor is suicide.
I have no problems paying for add on aircraft, but a locked mission editor is nuts.

Possibly a plausably deniable leak to test the waters?

08-21-2008, 06:54 AM
locked, why?

Where is this discussed?

Well I think they will get their answer.Maybe they are seeing how little they can get away with on release, then charge for everything afterwards. For me,2 flyables and a locked mission editor would make me seriously reconsider buying it.

I hope they get enough feedback to reconsider the locked mission editor. As to whether I reconsider buying, it depends on the pricing. If they offer a couple of flyables for less than 10, I would probably buy it. If they're charging 30 for it, I probably wouldn't.

08-21-2008, 07:36 AM
Total speculation here, but I doubt you would see it for less than 19.99.
Then 10-20 for each add on pack.

08-21-2008, 07:40 AM
That would make it less tempting. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Let's look on the bright side, unlike SoW at least the developers are (unofficially) telling us something!

08-21-2008, 07:47 AM
Is that a parachute?

looks like a balloon to me.

Also, right now we have nothing. If they release something, then we have choice to buy or not. If they wait, maybe we have nothing.

I am interested in paid for flyable aircraft cockpits. You can play a full battle with all sorts of AI aircraft, but flying one takes supporting the developers a bit more. That idea could work.

But if the missions are encrypted, this game dies soon after birth. When they go out of business, no more missions.

There will be a mission editor but it will not be published. The developer may charge for additional missions created by them.

Sorry to go OT here, but its something I have always wondered about....your sig Lexx...

Isnt the J8A the 'Gladiator II' in Swedish Service?

08-21-2008, 09:47 AM
Yap, when the AEP was releaced, alot of threads were asking where to find the "flyable gladiator." I made the SiG to clean the forum of those threads (I think it worked). That was back when I poasted alot more. hehe they should make me serial moderator.

After reading that I've lost (most) all interest in it. I hope I am wrong but it doesn't sound like the project is going well.

Besides, who's to say we couldn't have those planes in IL-2 some day? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

08-21-2008, 10:25 AM
Triad, I'm with you on this one.

Expectations are a big killer, and the people coming to KOTS from IL2 are expecting quite a bit. We have found through more than seven years of flight simming with Oleg that his formula of Careers, single missions, QMB, FMB, skins, and online play kept this sim alive through the years. I, for one, was hoping to have something like an IL2 sim for the WW1 era. If these changes go through I probably will not buy the product. I understand purchasing planes, and considering how much I've shelled out for IL2 and its expansions, I'd consider that fine. But only starting with two aircraft... that depends on what they expect me to pay for the initial game. Not having a mission builder, however, is unacceptable.

08-21-2008, 11:10 AM
Lots of AI planes, just have to support the developers more to fly them. It could be a good idea.

Not having a mission builder, however, is unacceptable.
Its not that bad, and KOTS is a small team. StrikeFighters has no stock mission editor, but the missions are "open" as simple text files, so there are several 3rd Party mission editors out there.

If the KOTS mission files are encrypted, 3rd Party mission editors may not be possible. Fear of competition in mission building? If this is the case, the customers may never see a 3rd Party dynamic campaign generator like Lowengrin's, and apparently KOTS will not offer its own stock dynamic campaign generator, so there may be none.

If we didn't have Oleg's very advanced FMB, the community would have made at least simple mission editors to get by with, although most likely without some features in FMB. The important thing is Oleg didn't encrypt his mission file system, but left it open for the customers.

Having skimmed the Simhq thread, I'd say that I have no problems at all with paying for add-on content as described, particularly as the costs being talked about are tiny compared to the 1,500+ I've spent on the PC to play my 30 sims. But without an FMB or the ability to use user-generated skins the game would likely never generate a loyal and motivated comunity of the sort that has supported IL-2 or MSFS over the years. Imagine if IL2 only had the QMB and stock skins (shudder)...

Another quick point about pay-for add-on aircraft. We've already had this with IL-2's AEP and in the GOOD OLD DAYS of Mechwarrior 4 we had Clan and Inner Sphere expansion packs that cost (IIRC) about 10. The community bought them and loved them (10 to drive a Highlander or a Masakari? Bargain!). If you didn't buy the packs, you could still see the content, just not use it.
