I dont understand. Why have the crew enter airspeed and altitude in bombsight (in IL-2 game and real life )? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Enter airspeed and altitude in bombsight for what ? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I want to know realy. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hi

It is to calculate the drift and how off course the bomb was. That is hy they had to adjust the sights. If you didn't the bomb could end up miles of target.

If you were in a balloon, with no wind, you would have no airspeed and the altitude would not matter. The bomb would drop straight down. When you are moving sideways you must drop the bomb before you get to the target because it will also have forward speed for at least part of it's drop. How far ahead depends on your airspeed and altitude. When you set the bomb sight, it puts the crosshairs on the ground ahead of the plane, the distance it should take the bomb to reach the ground.
I hope this is not a fisherman, I just woke up and am grouchy.

how off
sorry Rxman & thank for your answer.I understand your answer but I think the Bombsight is work when I enter Sight Distance only. Because Bombsight table show Sight Distance for me yet.so I dont understand why I must enter Sight Altitude & Sight Velocity too?

I think IF we already knew the bombsight degree by using a Bomb table as a reference, Why wasting time putting these Speed and Alt value into the norden bombsight? plz explain thx.

sorry for my language. and I dont understand fisherman is mean what?

With sight distance you mean moving the view up and down?

Without entering the height and the speed the cross-hair will not stay fixed on the target and you cannot lock on the target. If you activate the automatic release for the bombs now (without correct height / speed), the cross-hair will start to wander across the landscape you see through the bomb sight, but the goal is to have it stay fixed on the target.

Lets say buy entering the height and the speed you calibrate/synchronize the crosshair / bomb sight.

Edit: Do you mean this?

Your bomber is travelling at a height of 2000m and an airspeed of 300km/h(IAS) 339(TAS) and the table gives you an angle of 43.56 degrees for such a setup. You set the bomb sight to 43.56 degrees and once your target appears under the cross-hair you release the bombs manually.

I think this will work in IL2 but not in real live. In IL2 you don't have to counter the wind drift for example. Just picking up the angle from a bomb sight table wouldn't do the job in the real live. In real live they had to synchronize the bomb sight and let the automatic bomb release do the job.

If you want to release the bombs manually by using fixed angle you can use this tool to calculate the angle.

The Bombsight Table 2 listed above is a great tool... but what's the difference between putting your speed and altitude into the Bombsight Table 2 program or putting it into your bombsight? Same number of steps.

It is, though, for anyone who hasn't tried it, a good tool for converting IAS to TAS, and for figuring time to target or RTB for both fighter and bomber pilots.

Going manual or automated is a matter of style and preference, I guess, so if you go manual, use the program...

Bombsight Velocity
Bombsight Altitude

Bombsight Velocity must be your True Air Speed, not the Indicated, which is why Bombsight Table 2 is recommended, as it converts for you.

Anyone try Shturman (Navigator) for level bombing?

This considers temperature of the map in the TAS calculation.

And in him it's possible alternate IAS of KM in KM. Altitude of 5 in 5 meters

To show in english edit shturman.ini

[Options]
Lang=Eng <<<
Store=1

That you see in game:

I have bombsight table 2, I just cant get it to work.

BT2 is easy to use.
Open the program - and NOT MINIMISE.
Open IL2.
In game use Shift + Pause Break to show his window.
Shift + Page Up to increase IAS
Shift + Page Down to decrease IAS
Ctrl + Page UP do increse Altitude (of your flight)
Ctrl + page Down to decrease Altitude

Then you need to enter in game bombsight (your need to map keys for this) the IAS and Altitude
show in BT2, and adjust the in game bombsight angle with one show in BT2.
Thats all, when in game bombsight cross hair pass over target "Bombs away".

* Distance wide is not important - but if know inform the time to arrive in target.

BTW-A good tutorial: http://www.battle-fields.com/commscentre/showthread.php?t=13300

Is there a Brief_Manual for the Shturman in English?

Thanks for that. Looks very interesting. I gather that P1 and P2 are the start and destination map co-ordinates. The choice of map, plane and loadout are pretty self-explanatory. Need some instruction for other things to get the best use of this fine utility.

Thanks again and Cheers!
