Ok. Forget it. I just got the digital download for now and I'll get the Colectors Edition when is available.
The Colectors being a boxed product, I'd expect to be a bit more complicated to distribute in so many places at once.
Specially in Canada, across the U-boat infested Atlantic. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

For now at least I know I'll have the game the moment is released and Oleg finally starts to get paid. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Any word on the type DRM used, if any? What type of DRM schemes have other Ubi games used lately? I read how the Silent Hunter series was negatively impacted by DRM.

Also will COD likely run in DX9? I have Windows 7 64-bit but can't use it for simming since I'll need to either adapt my gameport pedals and stick to USB or just buy an entirely new USB set up. If COD will run in WinXP with DX9, I'll be happy for a time and postpone the pedal and stick fix.

DRM is a one time online activation. DX9,10,11 are all supported, though with the minimum requirement of 3gb of RAM (the only minimum spec we know) using a 32bit OS may be a hindrance beyond DX type.

JG52Uther
01-19-2011, 03:22 PM
I think a 32 bit O/S only supports 2 GB of ram doesn't it?
If so,I reckon that could be below minimum specs. The Igromir build stuttered like crazy on i5's with 2Gb of ram.
Then again,Oleg and crew are masters of optimisation.

ElAurens
01-19-2011, 03:30 PM
I'm running XP Pro 32 bit. I have 4 gigs of ram installed and the system recognizes 3 gigs.

I'm not worried in the least about running the new sim.

JG52Uther
01-19-2011, 03:43 PM
Ah my mistake then! I reckon 3GB's will be fine.
I know I can run RoF at almost full tilt on my Q6600 system, and have no doubts that CoD will be better optimised than that.

The link sends you to a page that lists all of UBI's games. No mention of IL2:CoD. If you do a search on that page IL2:CoD won't come up. The only link that sends me to IL2:CoD is the first link which is for the down-loadable version.

It's buggy as all hell, though, the Ubishop, isn't it? It insisted that I had Silent Hunter III in my basket, which I could not remove, and although the unit price was listed as £6.99 it wasn't added to the total price and I wasn't charged for it, but at the end of the transaction I was offered the download of it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif Weird. I bought the Collector's Edition and used PayPal without any issues, from the UK. Shipping is free, but I hope UBI mark their ship carefully, as I'll be torpedoing everything in sight for the next couple of months http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Roll on the tea-towel(!) that I'll be giving to my wife as I head for my computer, muttering "somewhere in France", love, see you later.

Frankly, a fitted kitchen might have been a better freebie considering the time-out I expect to be taking. Perhaps I should show her my schnorkel?

A quick tip for anyone who gets the free SH3 download: check out the SH3 forum for useful info (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/857101043), and in particular, look at getting SH3 Commander (DL link here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...01043/m/7061012797), (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/7061012797),) which makes the whole sim more user-friendly - no need to spend half your time telling the crew when to go to bed, go to work, brush their teeth etc...

It seems that people like me who don't really want the collectors edition (I have a Spitfire user manual thing which is nice but I very much that I will ever need/use it) that a vanilla version is available for pre-order at a reasonable price of £35 (well £34.99 to be precise). I'd really like some official clarification on the distribution of the collector's edition.

I want it, but the only route to get it here in Canada currently appears via amazon.de and a 14 Euro shipping charge. If that's the only option we'll ever have, fine, I'll probably do it. However I'd rather know now before I buy it and then discover a week later that the North American ubi shops are stocking it.

Anyone official care to comment?

I'll wait a while before ordering or buying it.

Currently I am really happy with IL2 and can play Luftwaffe and BoB campaigns at a solid 60FPS 1920x1200 with 16xAF and 8xAA.

The collectors edition looks like a good investment, but lets not kid ourselves here?

Firstly the release date will probably slip, secondly, I want to see a video showing what I am really getting rather than a place-holder 'mish-mash' launch video, there are a very few aircraft I really feel the need to fly that I can't already, £50 is a lot for a game that will no-doubt be discounted before release else-where, I'm only paying for better damage models, graphics, lighting and weather (IMHO, and still no sign of large Thunderheads?).

Currently I just don't feel the 'need' to get this and even though I live in the UK, I like flying American aircraft, so I'll probably wait for IL2: Cliffs of Dover 1946, AEP,Pacific Fighters, Complete, Ultimate, Uranium, Plutonium Edition before dipping my toes in at £10 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I don't believe a single word Mysticpuma is saying. He know's Oleg personally, has his mug in his signature for Pete's sake!

How is he not going to buy it? Because he can get it for $10 cheaper a few weeks later? I just sold a kidney for a new system and 3 x hp30 inch monitors (the wife knew it was coming after I told her the release date of CoD). Probably have to buy her something nice just to keep the peace. She actually does not yet know about the monitors. Good chance she won't even notice. I got 4x22 inch Samsungs for stock trading and market analysis. Going to 3x30 inchers may make her wonder where the fourth monitor went. She's not into computers.

Anyhow, as soon as it opens for preorder in the US I'll get it. I think Mysticpuma is so exited that he just has to temper his joy down, just in case it does get pushed back. Heck in that case I'll be enjoying RoF on 3x30 inch screens. The only thing that sux is that I have recurrent training the weekend after it comes out. I'll be fighting engine fires and flameouts in the sim while you guys (yeah, you too Mystic) are having a ball with CoD. What a timing.

Official system specs say 10GB drive space so expect the download to be 10GB or less depending on how well it compresses for download.

I don't get it. I ordered the Coll Ed and it says it's released on March 3. seems remarkably early compared to the rest.

Im sorry to say this but its pretty much an impossibility at this point.... the game hasn't even gone gold yet.

even if it went gold on Monday (21st), depending on the # of copies being duped and printed it will take anywhere between 2-4 weeks before being able to be shipped.

the key to having any kind of educated guess as to the release, is finding out the 'gold' date... when Oleg/Ilya say its gold then you can probably expect it 3 weeks from then.

I have been playing the beta for two weeks as it is being reviewed for a magazine. You will all not be disappointed. Oleg and his team have done it again.

Just Flight informed me yesterday that CoD will be available for a UK download next month.

Very best wishes,

Jay

You're welcome, friend. I supplied maps of all the RAF fields and I sure hope they come in handy. I also sent some interesting and unpublished shots of Spitfires and Hurricanes of the period that were apparently of use.

This is what I love about this community, Il-2 and Oleg - we're one family that contributes towards the finest sim e-v-e-r.

But I do know I'll have to upgrade my rig. Booo.

And, oh, it's only download so I have been told for the UK masses. I am pretty sure there is no physical copy. The beta was downloaded by Steam and had no issues.

No way in heaven do I have a system to run CoD but I still pre-ordered it yesterday.
I'll eventually become an exceptionally easy online target for some of you. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
