4.2 if you use perfect, and 4.3 for excellent.

Big framerate hit with 4.3's

'Community Help' has thread(s) on this...

4.3 does indeed cause a big framerate hit if you max everything out in the ATI control panel but it looks so good! It really depends on the settings you select that will cause the framerate issues. I don't know about the other drivers 4.3 is 100% stable on my machine no problems at all. I got the Radeon 9800XT 256 expecting to have a huge improvement in framerates but instead I found myself wanting more eye candy and now i'm back down to the performance of my old Ti4600.
Oh well i'm in the process of upgrading to the AMD 64 anyway.

A speck of dirt on your windscreen could turn into an enemy fighter in the time it took to look round and back again. A little smear on your goggles might hide the plane that was coming in to kill you.

I use the 4.2's with a 9700 pro and these (http://www.angelfire.com/ultra/coastie0/IL2setup.html) settings (but a higher res) and get excellent FPS and great visuals.

Recommened drivers for AEP are 3.7's or 4.1's. I use 4.1's with my 9800 Pro and see no reason to change. I always run perfect mode 1600 x 1200 with excellent results...........S!

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Badsight,
I use 4.1s, I always fly in Perfect, but remember you can use the 4.3s with the oglxx.dll from the 4.1s with no framerate hit.
Gives you the additional functionality with the speec from the 4.1.s (or 3.7s, for that matter)

Hey Kernal,

Is that mini-screen doctored or are you using some kind of high Rez Tiles? Look at those colors? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Cpt. Lone Ranger,

Which version of Omegas are you using? And which card have you got? Thanks!

I went to the 4.3 Cats after installing them last night and have not noticed an ounce of performance loss. Black Death with a 9700 pro XP2700 and 1024mb DDR 3200 was at an average of 32 fps and I was happy with the results. (Perfect settings)
I had a very nice picture with Excellent settings 37 fps but I choose Ground lighting from excellent to high. Clouds to medium.
Water, cities, and flac. will devour a graphic card. So it was just a natural thing to shut these unnecessary features off IMHO. Although I used custom settings and turned off compression and went to from triliniar to anisistropic. (knowing I will take a slight FPS hit) Checked vertex left the dither and stripple unchecked. and went to the other goodies and unchecked palate. It is getting very nice FPS and I am comfortable knowing it is a standard ATI driver. If you want to have fun tooling with your ATI card and get some really nice effects is to dump in a little extra Gamma .. take it to around 85-90 .. and use your Monitor settings to change the brightness and the contrast (Less work for your vid card) And you can get a richer color.
I have goofed around offline and toyed with the Smartshader and have seen some really cool stuff especially with the Black and White enabled. Try: Invese, RGB, and Porthole..Ugly as heck but worth the admission back to "Alice in Wonderland".
I use the 1280x980 32bit and 85mhz settings and have not seen much differerence worth changing. I have gone to 800x600 32 bit 100mhz and have not seen much of a differance at all. ( I will usually jack up my vid settings higher and defeat the purpose of the a better fps)
ATI is an odd bird because the more you push it the better it gets?? I don't understand this but I have spoken to many 9700 Pro guys and they lament the same.. Custom settings for OGL and 3D.. UNCHECKED 2x4 aa/af at Quality. Textures/Mipmap Quality. And I leave the Vert Sync and Truform Off. (BOTH 3D & OGL) Compatability in 3D enable DXT and disable Pixel. OGL Disable Z buffer and triple.

Tried the 4.3s and they brought my framerate down from mid 30s to mid teens in perfect mode. No doubt the colours and textures were better but it was unusable for me.

Omegas were little better if any. Went back to the ATi 4.2s which give a compromise on quality/speed.

Yep!
I have a 1.8 Ghz, Intel 512M RDRAM and an ATI 9600XT.

I was doing 40's with the Omega 4.2's AAX2 AF Program Preference, VSYNC always on. I installed the 4.3's last night and took a 8-10 FPS hit!! Back to the 4.2's tonight!

In HALO I use Radlinker and turn off AA, AF, VSYNC. 4.3's took me from 40's and 50's to Teens http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I find image quality is better with the newer 4.1-4.2-4.3s but I get lockups ...after around 20 minutes. So I have to use 3.7s (radeon 9600p)
