Hey Zeus Cat,

I'm just getting into your excellent Straight and True IL-2T Torpedo Bombing campaign and I'm having a blast!

So far I've gotten through 4 missions flying full switch minus "no instant success" so navigation is a little bit tricky.

The briefings are really good, although personally I wouldn't mind the heading and distance for each waypoint in there somewhere as well, and the atmosphere is really good.

So far I've managed to get one ship, mostly because I always seem to target the same ship and drop my torp just BEFORE my comrades nail it with enough to take it out. Oh well, we got there and back in one piece, mostly, and that's what counts!

The one other complaint that I have is that the AI tend to crash into each other and the ground a little more often than I would like. Is this just a problem with the 4.04 AI or something I'm doing?

I've flown this campaign and it's great. I know one of the plane crashes IS intentional (I asked about it). A couple missions I had to fly in wonderwoman view because I kept getting disoriented and couldn't tell how low I really was.

Hence his Custom Member Title reads as it does. He is one of the best offline campaign builders we have in this community. I have been fortunate enough to have flown with Zues as a squadm8 for nearly three years now. I can tell you he puts his heart into every campaign he creates and releases to the community. And I have been lucky enough to be asked or allowed to test as he goes from time to time. I suggest you try them all. If you like one, you will love them all. KUDOS Zues-Cat!

This is an excellent campaign. Also, I think it was his 1st campaign. Brilliant really.

I learned more about navigating and flight management (even though the AI seem a bit harder to control now than when this campaign was created), than I believe I could have otherwise. Like the others have stated and not just because he's a squadmate, you should try everything Zeus has made. I particularly enjoyed "Straight Shot" and "Straight Into An Icy Hell". Yeah, it's a shameless plug for another squaddie but his campaigns are every bit as good as Zeus's.

Glad you guys like the campaign.

This was my first campaign and I think it a little rough around the edges. I have learned a lot since then on how to make campaigns, but I think this one stands up well enough as is.

I never meant the campaign to be flown without the minimap (I'm lazy that way), but if you make notes based on the briefing map you should be able to do it. My later campaigns are better at giving you the general heading you need to fly.

Success in this campaign is always to be looked at as the team's success, not your own. So many of the ships in this game require two or more torpedoes to sink, that you have to be lucky to be the person to actually sink one.

The AI are mostly rookies in the first few missions, but they do get better as the campaign progress. I look at the rookies crashing into each other as some of the atmosphere, but it will diminish as they get better. Eventually, many of them will be veterans.

Just a note, around the halfway point (mission 15 or so) you won't be commanding the entire squadron anymore. It got to be too difficult to program the mission for the whole squadron, so I programmed each flight separately and you only control your own flight.

Thanks again Zeus-cat, this is truly a very funny, well laid out, and well-playing campaign!

So far we have done pretty well. Mission one we managed to defend ourselves pretty well, and I managed to nail a 110.

Next two missions to attack the convoy went decently. Destroyed one the first time round and nailed the other three on the second time round.

The 12 of us managed to find the German cruiser in the 4th mission (quite a feat with no minimap path) and then every single one of us managed to miss it. Including some misses that took serious talent, with the torp passing mere centimeters in front of the ships bow.

We nailed one of the subs in the second mission, although the second element seemed to have gotten lost http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif and this time it was my turn to miss the sub by centimeters http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Just finished the sixth mission to attack the Saki harbor. Those barrage balloon cables took a toll on our flights, with six airplanes being lost. We nailed two and brought everyone else back home.

This is a really immersive campaign if you fly it full-switch plus No Instant Success turned off!

Ive flown the excellent Rufe cmpns, so i guess i need to make time to fly this one. He knows how to use that misn blder. He's also fun to fly with along wiht the other 'dogs'.

HIs cmpns are always original, and in the words of john Cleese...."and now for something completely different".

Straight and True is much more challenging than Straight Shot which makes it very rewarding and satisfying to complete. I didn't get a single AC kill, only some surface ship kills.

In this campaign you are in charge to command the other flights to attack correctly and get the mission done. Learn your wingman commands and use them constantly, because this campaign is not about your kill ratio, but your squadron's kill ratio.

The more I think about, the more excellent it becomes.

I believe I included 5 readme files with this campaign. They contain useful information, I suggest you read them before starting the campaign (they aren't very long).

As Han Freak Solo has said, this is about completing each mission successfully, not getting kills for yourself.

Things to keep in mind when playing:
1) You get one shot each mission - make it count!
2) You are flying a **** plane. Almost every plane out there is faster and has more firepower. Take your shot and then get out of there!
3) You have 2 forward firing machine guns. Odds are very good that you won't kill much with them. Only try if you have no choice.
4) You need to tell your squadron what to do at times. Their success is your success.
5) Play with No Instant Success turned off. Some of the missions are quite tough.
6) On some missions I have placed friendly ships in enemy water where you can ditch. Use them if needed.
7) If you play without the minimap, make good notes on your flight plan. You are over water for a long time in many missions and no minimap can be tough.
